Johanna M. Sweere

Johanna Sweere graduated in 2019 from the Immunology PhD program at Stanford University. She received her summa cum laude undergraduate degree from Utrecht University, where she also completed a master's degree in Infectious Diseases. During Dr. Sweere's training, she developed a strong interested in research that encompasses the complexities of host-pathogen interactions, with a focus on immunosuppressive mechanisms from invading microbes.

At Stanford University, she worked in the lab of Paul L. Bollyky, where she studied the interaction between filamentous bacteriophages, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and mammalian immune cells. For her work she developed a novel mouse model of chronic Pseudomonas aeruginosa wound infections. During her PhD, Dr. Sweere was awarded the Stanford Graduate Fellowship for Science and Engineering, and the Gabilan Bio-X Stanford Interdisciplinary Graduate Fellowship.

Dr. Sweere currently works as a life sciences consultant in San Francisco.
