Biography

Dr. Sung-Jan Lin is the Taiwan Bio-development Foundation (TBF) Chair in Biotechnology and Professor of Institute of Biomedical Engineering and the Deputy Director of Research Center for Developmental Biology and Regenerative Medicine at National Taiwan University. He is also a dermatologist in National Taiwan University Hospital. He received his MD and PhD from College of Medicine and College of Engineering in National Taiwan University. He takes hair follicles, a miniorgan with distinct structures and growth cycles, as a model to understand how a complex organ interacts with the environment and reacts to various insults and to decipher the principles and machinery of tissue regeneration. His lab employs a multidisciplinary approach by combing the knowledge learned in biology and tissue engineering to enhance tissue regeneration. He has published ~140 journal papers in associated journals, including Cell, Science, PNAS, Nature Communications, Biomaterials, Optics Letters, etc. His work has been recognized by Award for Junior Research Investigators in Life Science of Academia Sinica, Physician Scientist Award of Taiwan National Health Research Institutes, Distinguished Research Award of Taiwan Ministry of Science and Technology and Outstanding Professor Award of Far Eastern Y.Z. Hsu Science and Technology Memorial Foundation. In 2014, he was elected as Taiwan Bio-development Foundation (TBF) Chair in Biotechnology.
