Flexible electrodes have attracted much attention in consumer electronic applications. In this work, laser direct writing is used to fabricate copper/graphene composite electrodes on a flexible substrate in one step. This direct writing process with a low power laser can reduce copper ions in thin films to form copper nanomaterials and spontaneously interconnect them to gain good conductivity, while the laser also induces the growth of multi-layer graphene that coats on copper to improve the oxidation resistance of electrodes. The electrical performance and chemical composition of flexible electrodes can be tuned by laser power, scanning speed, and defocus distance. A mechanism of in situ reduction and interconnection of copper nanomaterials during laser direct writing has been proposed. This method could largely reduce the oxidation issue by avoiding synthesis and sintering processes of copper nanomaterials. These as-written copper electrodes have good stability and have potential applications in flexible electronics, such as flexible heaters or antennas as demonstrated.

One-step selective laser patterning of copper/graphene flexible electrodes.

Grating interferometry X-ray differential phase contrast imaging (GI-XDPCI) has provided enhanced imaging contrast and attracted more and more interests. Currently the low imaging efficiency and increased dose remain to be the bottlenecks in the engineering applications of GI-XDPCI. Different from the widely-used X-ray absorption contrast imaging (XACI) found in hospitals and factories, GI-XDPCI involves a grating stepping procedure that is time-consuming and leads to a significantly increased X-ray exposure time. In this paper, we report a fast GI-XDPCI method without movements by designing a new absorption grating. There is no grating stepping in this approach, and all components remain stationary during the imaging. Three kinds of imaging contrasts are provided with greatly reduced time. This work is comprised of a numerical study of the method and its verification using a sub-set of the dataset measured with a standard GI-XDPCI system at the beam line BL13W1 of the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF). These results have validated the presented method.

Fast X-ray Differential Phase Contrast Imaging with One Exposure and without Movements.

With the development of more/all electric aircraft, replacement of the traditional hydraulic servo actuator (HSA) with an electromechanical actuator (EMA) is becoming increasingly attractive in the aerospace field. This paper takes an EMA for a trimmable horizontal stabilizer as an example and focuses on how to establish a system model with an appropriate level of complexity to support the model-based system engineering (MBSE) approach. To distinguish the nonlinear effects that dominate the required system performance, an incremental approach is proposed to progressively introduce individual nonlinear effects into models with different complexity levels. Considering the special design and working principle of the mechanical power transmission function for this actuator, the nonlinear dynamics, including friction and backlash from the no-back mechanism, and the nonlinear compliance effect from the mechanical load path are mainly taken into consideration. The modelling principles for each effect are addressed in detail and the parameter identification method is utilized to model these nonlinear effects realistically. Finally, the responses from each model and experimental results are compared to analyze and verify how each individual nonlinearity affects the system's performance.

System Performance Analysis for Trimmable Horizontal Stabilizer Actuator Focusing on Nonlinear Effects: Based on Incremental Modelling and Parameter Identification Methodology.

Allograft-specific regulatory T cells (T cells) are crucial for long-term graft acceptance after transplantation. Although adoptive T cell transfer has been proposed, major challenges include graft-specificity and stability. Thus, there is an unmet need for the direct induction of graft-specific T cells. We hypothesized a synergism of the immunotolerogenic effects of rapamycin (mTOR inhibition) and plerixafor (CXCR4 antagonist) for T cell induction. Thus, we performed fully-mismatched heart transplantations and found combination treatment to result in prolonged allograft survival. Moreover, fibrosis and myocyte lesions were reduced. Although less CD3 T cell infiltrated, higher T cell numbers were observed. Noteworthy, this was accompanied by a plerixafor-dependent plasmacytoid dendritic cells-(pDCs)-mobilization. Furthermore, in vivo pDC-depletion abrogated the plerixafor-mediated T cell number increase and reduced allograft survival. Our pharmacological approach allowed to increase T cell numbers due to pDC-mediated immune regulation. Therefore pDCs can be an attractive immunotherapeutic target in addition to plerixafor treatment.
