Douglas G. Hayes is an Institute Professor of Biosystems Engineering at the University of Tennessee and is an Adjunct Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. He received his B.S and PhD. in Chemical Engineering at Iowa State University (1986) and the University of Michigan (1991), respectively, and will receive an Executive MBA in Strategic Leadership in December, 2022. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Surfactants and Detergents. He has received several awards, including being named as a Fellow of the American Oil Chemists' Society (AOCS). His research areas include biobased and biodegradable plastics in agriculture, micro- and nanoplastics' impact on the environment, soft matter, small-angle scattering, and enzymology in nonaqueous media.
