A laboratory study was performed on the extracellular production of carbohydrates by the marine diatoms Cylindrotheca closterium, Thalassiosira pseudonana and Skeletonema costatum. The investigation was aimed at elucidating the role of P-starvation and growth status on abundance and chemical characteristics of the released non-attached polysaccharides. Inorganic phosphorus depletion determined an increase of total polysaccharides in all species examined compared to nutrient-replete (complete f/2) conditions. The highest abundance of polysaccharides per unit cell was found in T. pseudonana (28.4 micromol C 10(-6) cells), followed by C. closterium (2.56 micromol C 10(-6) cells) and S. costatum (1.18 micromol C 10(-6) cells). Maximum production rates were found at the transition between exponential and stationary growth phase. Gas-chromatographic analysis of the dissolved fraction showed glucose to be the most abundant monomer in exponentially growing, P-replete cultures (81.6%, 90% and 32% as molar percentage of total aldoses in C. closterium, T. pseudonana and S. costatum, respectively). A strong reduction in glucose was found in C. closterium, but not in T. pseudonana and S. costatum, under P-depleted conditions. Species-specific variations in the amount and aldose signatures of the released polysaccharides according to nutrient status and growth conditions can provide useful insights on the production and persistence of these organic compounds in the water column.

Une &#xE9;tude de laboratoire a &#xE9;t&#xE9; effectu&#xE9;e sur la production extracellulaire d&#x26;#39;hydrates de carbone par les diatom&#xE9;es marines Cylindrotheca closterium, Thalassiosira pseudonana et Skeletonema costatum. L&#x26;#39;enqu&#xEA;te visait &#xE0; &#xE9;lucider le r&#xF4;le de la P-faim et l&#x26;#39;&#xE9;tat de la croissance sur les caract&#xE9;ristiques de l&#x26;#39;abondance et chimiques des lib&#xE9;r&#xE9;s non-inscrits polysaccharides. Appauvrissement de la couche de phosphore inorganique a d&#xE9;termin&#xE9; une augmentation de polysaccharides totaux dans toutes les esp&#xE8;ces &#xE9;tudi&#xE9;es par rapport &#xE0; des &#xE9;l&#xE9;ments nutritifs-remplie (f compl&#xE8;te / 2) conditions. La plus forte abondance de polysaccharides par maille a &#xE9;t&#xE9; trouv&#xE9;e dans T. pseudonana (28,4 micromoles cellules C 10 (-6)), suivie par C. closterium (2,56 micromoles cellules C 10 (-6)) et S. costatum (1,18 micromoles C 10 (-6) des cellules). Les taux de production maximum ont &#xE9;t&#xE9; trouv&#xE9;s &#xE0; la transition entre la phase de croissance exponentielle et stationnaire. Chromatographie en phase gazeuse d&#x26;#39;analyse de la fraction dissoute montr&#xE9; glucose comme monom&#xE8;re le plus abondant &#xE0; croissance exponentielle, P-remplis cultures (81,6%, 90% et 32% en pourcentage molaire d&#x26;#39;aldoses totaux dans closterium C, T. pseudonana et S. costatum, respectivement). Une forte r&#xE9;duction de la glyc&#xE9;mie a &#xE9;t&#xE9; trouv&#xE9; dans C closterium, mais pas dans T. pseudonana et S. costatum, sous P-appauvri conditions. Sp&#xE9;cifiques &#xE0; l&#x26;#39;esp&#xE8;ce des variations dans les signatures montant et aldose des polysaccharides lib&#xE9;r&#xE9;s selon le statut des &#xE9;l&#xE9;ments nutritifs et des conditions de croissance peuvent fournir des indications utiles sur la production et la persistance de ces compos&#xE9;s organiques dans la colonne d&#x26;#39;eau.

Eine Labor-Studie wurde auf der extrazellul&auml;ren Produktion von Kohlenhydraten vom marine Diatomeen Cylindrotheca Closterium, Thalassiosira Pseudonana und Skeletonema Costatum durchgef&uuml;hrt. Die Untersuchung zielte auf die elucidating der Rolle der P-Hunger und Wachstum-Status auf F&uuml;lle und chemische Merkmale der ver&ouml;ffentlichten Fraktionslosen Polysaccharide. Anorganischen Phosphor Ersch&ouml;pfung festgestellt, dass eine Steigerung von insgesamt Polysaccharide in allen Arten untersucht mit N&auml;hrstoff-vollgestopft (komplette f/2) Bedingungen verglichen. Die h&ouml;chste F&uuml;lle von Polysacchariden pro Elementarzelle fand T. Pseudonana (28,4 Micromol C 10(-6) Zellen), gefolgt von C. Closterium (2,56 Micromol C 10(-6) Zellen) und S. Costatum (1,18 Micromol C 10(-6) Zellen). Maximale Produktionsraten fanden sich am &Uuml;bergang zwischen exponentielle und station&auml;ren Wachstumsphase. Gas-chromatographische Analyse der gel&ouml;sten Fraktion zeigte Glukose zu den am h&auml;ufigsten vorkommenden Monomers in exponentiell wachsenden, P-vollgestopft Kulturen (81,6 %, 90 % und 32 % als molare Prozentsatz der insgesamt Aldosen in C. Closterium, T. Pseudonana und S. Costatum, beziehungsweise). Ein starker R&uuml;ckgang der Glukose wurde in C. Closterium, aber nicht in T. Pseudonana und S. Costatum, P-abgereichertem Bedingungen gefunden. Artspezifische Variationen in der H&ouml;he und Aldose-Signaturen von der ver&ouml;ffentlichten Polysaccharide N&auml;hrstoff Status und Wachstums-Bedingungen entsprechend bieten n&uuml;tzliche Erkenntnisse &uuml;ber die Produktion und die Persistenz dieser organischen Verbindungen in der Wassers&auml;ule.

Uno studio di laboratorio &egrave; stato eseguito sulla produzione extracellulare di carboidrati dalle diatomee marine Cylindrotheca closterium, Phaeodactylum tricornutum e neritiche euriecie. L&#39;indagine mirava a chiarire il ruolo di stato P-fame e crescita sulle caratteristiche di abbondanza e chimico dei polisaccaridi rilasciati non iscritti. Deplezione di fosforo inorganico ha determinato un aumento di polisaccaridi totale in tutte le specie esaminate rispetto alle condizioni di piena di nutrienti (completa f/2). il pi&ugrave; alta abbondanza di polisaccaridi per cella unitaria &egrave; stato trovato in T. tricornutum (28,4 micromol C 10(-6) cellule), seguita da c. closterium (2,56 micromol C 10(-6) cellule) e S. euriecie (1,18 micromol C 10(-6) cellule). Tassi di produzione massima sono stati trovati durante la transizione tra la fase di crescita esponenziale e stazionari. Analisi gas-cromatografica della frazione disciolta ha mostrato glucosio sia il monomero pi&ugrave; abbondante nelle culture esponenzialmente crescente, piena di P (81,6%, 90% e 32% come percentuale molare di totale aldoses in c. closterium, T. tricornutum e s. euriecie, rispettivamente). Una forte riduzione del glucosio &egrave; stata trovata in c. closterium, ma non in T. tricornutum e S. euriecie, in condizioni di P-esaurito. Apetti variazioni nelle quantit&agrave; e aldoso firme dei polisaccaridi rilasciati secondo condizioni lo stato e la crescita dei nutrienti possono fornire indicazioni utili sulla produzione e la persistenza di questi composti organici nella colonna d&#39;acqua.

La investigaci&#xF3;n tuvo como objetivo dilucidar el papel de la P-hambre y estado de crecimiento de las caracter&#xED;sticas de abundancia y qu&#xED;micas de los liberados no inscritos polisac&#xE1;ridos. Agotamiento de f&#xF3;sforo inorg&#xE1;nico determina un aumento de polisac&#xE1;ridos totales en todas las especies examinadas en comparaci&#xF3;n con nutrientes repleta (f completa / 2) las condiciones. La mayor abundancia de polisac&#xE1;ridos por celda unidad se encuentra en T. pseudonana (28,4 micromol c&#xE9;lulas C 10 (-6)), seguido por C. closterium (2,56 micromol c&#xE9;lulas C 10 (-6)) y S. costatum (1,18 micromoles C 10 (-6) c&#xE9;lulas). Las tasas m&#xE1;ximas de producci&#xF3;n se encuentra en la transici&#xF3;n entre la fase de crecimiento exponencial y estacionaria. Cromatograf&#xED;a de gases an&#xE1;lisis de la fracci&#xF3;n disuelta demostr&#xF3; glucosa a ser el mon&#xF3;mero m&#xE1;s abundante en crecimiento exponencial, P-repletas cultivos (81,6%, 90% y 32% como porcentaje molar de aldosas totales en C. closterium, pseudonana T. y S. costatum, respectivamente). Cozze sono ampiamente usati come bioindicatore organismi per il monitoraggio di inquinanti chimici, tra cui metalli traccia. Questi elementi sono costituenti naturali dell&#39;ambiente marino e le loro concentrazioni basali negli organismi possono essere influenzate da diversi fattori ambientali e biologici. Lo scopo di questo lavoro era quello di estendere la nostra conoscenza sulla variabilit&agrave; naturale dei metalli traccia nei tessuti di mitili, concentrandosi sulle fluttuazioni stagionale e interannuale in un sito di riferimento costiere dell&#39;Adriatico (Portonovo); un totale di 39 campionamenti sono stati eseguiti durante i 5 anni, fornendo un set di dati estesi per i livelli del tessuto come, Ba, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, Mn, Ni, Pb, Se, V e Zn. concentrazioni di metalli traccia nei tessuti di mitili rivelano marcate fluttuazioni stagionali con differenze significative tra i vari anni di campionamento. Tali fluttuazioni &egrave; apparso principalmente correlate a phytoplanctonic fioriture e soprattutto per il ciclo riproduttivo che hanno esibito un certo spostamento interannuale del periodo gametogenesis. Concentrazioni pi&ugrave; basse sono state misurate nei mesi estivi per la maggior parte degli elementi, mentre un diverso ciclo stagionale &egrave; stato osservato per l&#39;arsenico, non correlata con lo sviluppo gonadic, n&eacute; con altri elementi. La speciazione chimica di arsenico &egrave; stata caratterizzata per distinguere i composti di origine naturale da quelle potenzialmente riflettendo un impatto antropogenico. Contrassegnato annuale e variazioni geografiche sono stati misurati per le concentrazioni di arsenico in mitili delle diverse piattaforme. Tuttavia, il confronto con i risultati di Portonovo, ha permesso di escludere l&#39;impatto antropogenico dell&#39;attivit&agrave; di sfruttamento e ha rivelato una sfumatura naturale regionale dei livelli di arsenico nei tessuti di mitili associati all&#39;influenza cambia del deflusso fiume Po sulla salinit&agrave; dell&#39;acqua di mare. Los mejillones son ampliamente utilizados como organismos bioindicadores para el seguimiento de los contaminantes qu&#xED;micos, incluyendo los metales traza. Estos elementos son componentes naturales en el medio marino y sus concentraciones basales de los organismos puede ser influenciada por varios factores ambientales y biol&#xF3;gicos. El objetivo de este trabajo fue ampliar nuestro conocimiento sobre la variabilidad natural de los metales traza en los tejidos de los mejillones, se centra en las fluctuaciones estacionales e interanuales en un sitio de referencia costera de la costa del Adri&#xE1;tico (Portonovo), un total de 39 muestreos se realizaron durante 5 a&#xF1;os, proporcionando un extenso conjunto de datos para los niveles tisulares de As, Ba, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, Mn, Ni, Pb, Se, V y Zn. Las concentraciones de metales traza en los tejidos de los mejillones revel&#xF3; marcadas fluctuaciones estacionales con diferencias significativas entre a&#xF1;os de muestreo. Tales fluctuaciones apareci&#xF3; sobre todo en relaci&#xF3;n con las floraciones fitoplanct&#xF3;nica, y sobre todo para el ciclo reproductivo, que mostraron una cierta interanual cambio del per&#xED;odo de gametog&#xE9;nesis. Las concentraciones m&#xE1;s bajas se midieron en los meses de verano para la mayor&#xED;a de los elementos, mientras que un ciclo estacional diferente se observ&#xF3; para el ars&#xE9;nico, no se correlaciona con el desarrollo gon&#xE1;dico, ni con otros elementos. Especiaci&#xF3;n qu&#xED;mica del ars&#xE9;nico se caracteriza por distinguir entre los compuestos de origen natural de los que podr&#xED;an reflejar un impacto antropog&#xE9;nico. Arsenobeta&#xED;na y arsenocholine siempre eran las formas predominantes (hasta el 85% del ars&#xE9;nico total), mientras que un aumento significativo de dimethylarsine y &#xF3;xido trimethylarsine en primavera (24% del ars&#xE9;nico total) podr&#xED;a reflejar el efecto de la floraci&#xF3;n fitoplanct&#xF3;nica, tanto en la geoqu&#xED;mica y la transferencia tr&#xF3;fica de los este elemento. Un importante variabilidad interanual se observ&#xF3; tanto para el ciclo estacional y el rango de los valores medidos para todos los elementos, con diferencias marcadas sobre todo para el ars&#xE9;nico, que van desde menos de 10 a m&#xE1;s de 40 microg / g en los per&#xED;odos de verano de diferentes a&#xF1;os. Los datos obtenidos en la referencia de los mejillones se utilizaron para evaluar el impacto de las 41 plataformas off-shore distribuidos a lo largo de 5 distritos marinas en el norte y centro del Mar Adri&#xE1;tico. Los organismos incluidos en la muestra en estas estructuras desde 2001 hasta 2005 mostraron un enriquecimiento de cadmio y zinc, probablemente asociado a la utilizaci&#xF3;n de electrodos an&#xF3;dicos. Hay importantes variaciones anuales y geogr&#xE1;fica se realizaron mediciones de las concentraciones de ars&#xE9;nico en los mejillones de diferentes plataformas. Sin embargo, la comparaci&#xF3;n con los resultados de Portonovo, permiti&#xF3; excluir el impacto antropog&#xE9;nico de las actividades de explotaci&#xF3;n y revel&#xF3; un gradiente natural regional de los niveles de ars&#xE9;nico en los tejidos de los mejillones asociados a la influencia cambiante de la escorrent&#xED;a de los r&#xED;os Po de la salinidad del agua de mar. En particular, las concentraciones m&#xE1;s altas medidas en los organismos incluidos en la muestra de las plataformas del centro en comparaci&#xF3;n con el Adri&#xE1;tico Norte confirm&#xF3; una relaci&#xF3;n significativa entre la salinidad y la bioacumulaci&#xF3;n de ars&#xE9;nico, de acuerdo con un papel de arsenobeta&#xED;na como osmolito adquirido para los mejillones. Los resultados globales confirman la importancia de la variabilidad natural la hora de evaluar el impacto potencial de las actividades antropog&#xE9;nicas.

Mussels are widely used as bioindicator organisms for monitoring chemical pollutants including trace metals. These elements are natural constituents in the marine environment and their basal concentrations in the organisms can be influenced by several environmental and biological factors. The aim of this work was to extend our knowledge on the natural variability of trace metals in mussels tissues, focusing on seasonal and inter-annual fluctuations in a coastal reference site of the Adriatic coast (Portonovo); a total of 39 samplings were performed during 5 years, providing an extended data-set for tissue levels of As, Ba, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, Mn, Ni, Pb, Se, V and Zn. Concentrations of trace metals in mussels tissues revealed marked seasonal fluctuations with significant differences between various sampling years. Such fluctuations appeared mostly related to phytoplanctonic blooms and especially to reproductive cycle which exhibited a certain inter-annual shift of the gametogenesis period. Lower concentrations were measured in summer months for the majority of elements while a different seasonal cycle was observed for arsenic, not correlated with gonadic development, neither with other elements. Chemical speciation of arsenic was characterized to distinguish compounds of natural origin from those potentially reflecting an anthropogenic impact. Arsenobetaine and arsenocholine were always the predominant forms (up to 85% of total arsenic), while a significant increase of dimethylarsine and trimethylarsine oxide in spring (24% of total arsenic) might reflect the effect of phytoplanctonic bloom on both geochemistry and trophic transfer of this element. A significant inter-annual variability was observed for both the seasonal cycle and the range of values measured for all the elements, with particularly marked differences for arsenic, ranging from less than 10 to more than 40 microg/g in summer periods of different years. Data obtained on reference mussels were used to assess the impact of 41 off-shore platforms distributed along 5 nautical districts in the Northern and Central Adriatic Sea. Organisms sampled on these structures from 2001 to 2005 exhibited a certain enrichment of cadmium and zinc, probably associated to the use of anodic electrodes. Marked annual and geographical variations were measured for concentrations of arsenic in mussels of different platforms. However, the comparison with results of Portonovo, allowed to exclude the anthropogenic impact of exploitation activities and revealed a natural regional gradient of arsenic levels in mussels tissues associated to the changing influence of the Po river runoff on seawater salinity. In particular the higher concentrations measured in organisms sampled from platforms in the Central compared to Northern Adriatic confirmed a significant relationship between salinity and arsenic bioaccumulation, consistent with a role of arsenobetaine as an acquired osmolyte for mussels. The overall results confirmed the importance of natural variability when assessing the potential impact of anthropogenic activities.

Seasonal, spatial and inter-annual variations of trace metals in mussels from the Adriatic sea: a regional gradient for arsenic and implications for monitoring the impact of off-shore activities.

Les moules sont largement utilis&#xE9;s comme organismes bioindicateurs pour la surveillance des polluants chimiques, y compris les m&#xE9;taux traces. Ces &#xE9;l&#xE9;ments sont des constituants naturels dans l&#x26;#39;environnement marin et de leurs concentrations basales dans les organismes peuvent &#xEA;tre influenc&#xE9;s par plusieurs facteurs environnementaux et biologiques. Le but de ce travail &#xE9;tait d&#x26;#39;&#xE9;tendre nos connaissances sur la variabilit&#xE9; naturelle des m&#xE9;taux traces dans les tissus des moules, en se concentrant sur les fluctuations saisonni&#xE8;res et inter-annuelle dans un site de r&#xE9;f&#xE9;rence du littoral de la c&#xF4;te adriatique (Portonovo); un total de 39 pr&#xE9;l&#xE8;vements ont &#xE9;t&#xE9; effectu&#xE9;s au cours 5 ans, fournissant une &#xE9;tendue de donn&#xE9;es fix&#xE9;e pour les niveaux de tissus As, Ba, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, Mn, Ni, Pb, Se, V et Zn. Les concentrations de m&#xE9;taux traces dans les tissus des moules a r&#xE9;v&#xE9;l&#xE9; des fluctuations saisonni&#xE8;res marqu&#xE9;es avec des diff&#xE9;rences significatives entre les ann&#xE9;es d&#x26;#39;&#xE9;chantillonnage diff&#xE9;rentes. De telles fluctuations est apparu la plupart du temps li&#xE9;e &#xE0; blooms phytoplanctoniques et en particulier &#xE0; cycle de reproduction qui pr&#xE9;sentait une certaine inter-annuelle de la p&#xE9;riode de d&#xE9;calage gam&#xE9;togen&#xE8;se. Des concentrations plus faibles ont &#xE9;t&#xE9; mesur&#xE9;es au cours des mois d&#x26;#39;&#xE9;t&#xE9; pour la majorit&#xE9; des &#xE9;l&#xE9;ments tout en un cycle diff&#xE9;rent saisonni&#xE8;re a &#xE9;t&#xE9; observ&#xE9;e pour l&#x26;#39;arsenic, n&#x26;#39;est pas corr&#xE9;l&#xE9;e avec le d&#xE9;veloppement gonadique, ni avec d&#x26;#39;autres &#xE9;l&#xE9;ments. Sp&#xE9;ciation chimique de l&#x26;#39;arsenic a &#xE9;t&#xE9; caract&#xE9;ris&#xE9; &#xE0; distinguer des compos&#xE9;s d&#x26;#39;origine naturelle de ceux potentiellement refl&#xE9;tant un impact anthropique. Ars&#xE9;nob&#xE9;ta&#xEF;ne et ars&#xE9;nocholine &#xE9;taient toujours les formes pr&#xE9;dominantes (jusqu&#x26;#39;&#xE0; 85% de l&#x26;#39;arsenic total), tandis qu&#x26;#39;une augmentation significative de la dimethylarsine et de l&#x26;#39;oxyde trim&#xE9;thylarsine au printemps (24% de l&#x26;#39;arsenic total) pourrait refl&#xE9;ter l&#x26;#39;effet de la floraison phytoplanctonique &#xE0; la fois sur la g&#xE9;ochimie et de transfert trophique de cet &#xE9;l&#xE9;ment. Une importante variabilit&#xE9; inter-annuelle a &#xE9;t&#xE9; observ&#xE9;e &#xE0; la fois pour le cycle saisonnier et la gamme des valeurs mesur&#xE9;es pour tous les &#xE9;l&#xE9;ments, avec des diff&#xE9;rences particuli&#xE8;rement marqu&#xE9;es pour l&#x26;#39;arsenic, allant de moins de 10 &#xE0; plus de 40 microg / g dans les p&#xE9;riodes estivales d&#x26;#39;ann&#xE9;es diff&#xE9;rentes. Les donn&#xE9;es obtenues sur la r&#xE9;f&#xE9;rence moules ont &#xE9;t&#xE9; utilis&#xE9;s pour &#xE9;valuer l&#x26;#39;impact des 41 plates-formes off-shore r&#xE9;partis le long de 5 districts nautiques dans le nord et le centre de la mer Adriatique. Toutefois, la comparaison avec les r&#xE9;sultats de Portonovo, a permis d&#x26;#39;exclure l&#x26;#39;impact anthropique des activit&#xE9;s d&#x26;#39;exploitation et a r&#xE9;v&#xE9;l&#xE9; un gradient naturel r&#xE9;gional des niveaux d&#x26;#39;arsenic dans les tissus des moules associ&#xE9;s &#xE0; l&#x26;#39;influence changeante des eaux de ruissellement du P&#xF4; sur la salinit&#xE9; d&#x26;#39;eau de mer. En particulier, les concentrations les plus &#xE9;lev&#xE9;es mesur&#xE9;es dans les organismes &#xE9;chantillonn&#xE9;s &#xE0; partir de plates-formes dans le centre par rapport &#xE0; Adriatique Nord a confirm&#xE9; une relation significative entre la salinit&#xE9; et la bioaccumulation arsenic, compatible avec un r&#xF4;le de arsenob&#xE9;ta&#xEF;ne comme un acquis pour osmolyte moules. Les r&#xE9;sultats globaux ont confirm&#xE9; l&#x26;#39;importance de la variabilit&#xE9; naturelle lors de l&#x26;#39;&#xE9;valuation de l&#x26;#39;impact potentiel des activit&#xE9;s anthropiques.

Muscheln werden h&auml;ufig als Bioindikator Organismen f&uuml;r &Uuml;berwachung chemischer Schadstoffe, einschlie&szlig;lich Spur Metalle verwendet. Diese Elemente sind nat&uuml;rliche Bestandteile der Meeresumwelt und ihre basalen Konzentrationen in den Organismen durch verschiedene &ouml;kologische und biologische Faktoren beeinflusst werden k&ouml;nnen. Ziel dieser Arbeit war es, erweitern unser Wissen &uuml;ber die nat&uuml;rliche Variabilit&auml;t der Ablaufverfolgung Metalle in Muscheln Gewebe, Konzentration auf saisonale und interanuelle Schwankungen in einer K&uuml;stenstadt Referenzstandort der Adriak&uuml;ste (Portonovo); insgesamt 39 Proben wurden durchgef&uuml;hrt in 5 Jahren Gewebe Ebenen einen erweiterten Daten-Satz vorsieht, wie Ba, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, Mn, Ni, Pb, Se, V und Zn. Konzentrationen der Ablaufverfolgung Metalle in Muscheln Gewebe markierte saisonale Schwankungen, wobei erhebliche Unterschiede zwischen verschiedenen Probenahme Jahren offenbart. Solche Schwankungen erschien meistens Verwandte, Phytoplanctonic Bl&uuml;ten und vor allem Fortpflanzungszyklus, die eine gewisse interanuelle Verschiebung der Gametogenese Periode ausgestellt. Niedrigere Konzentrationen wurden in den Sommermonaten f&uuml;r die meisten Elemente gemessen, w&auml;hrend ein anderen saisonaler Zyklus f&uuml;r Arsen, nicht korreliert mit gonadic Entwicklung, weder mit anderen Elementen beobachtet wurde. Chemische Speziation von Arsen wurde gekennzeichnet, um Substanzen nat&uuml;rlichen Ursprungs von potenziell infolge einer anthropogenen Auswirkungen zu unterscheiden. Arsenobetain und Arsenocholine waren immer die vorherrschende bildet (bis zu 85 % von Gesamt Arsen), w&auml;hrend eine deutliche Zunahme von Dimethylarsine und Trimethylarsin Fr&uuml;hling (24 % der gesamten Arsen) die Wirkung der Phytoplanctonic Bloom am sowohl Geochemie und trophische Transfer dieses Elements widerspiegeln k&ouml;nnten. Eine bedeutende interanuelle Variabilit&auml;t wurde f&uuml;r beide den saisonalen Zyklus beobachtet und Wertebereich f&uuml;r alle Elemente, mit besonders ausgepr&auml;gten Unterschiede f&uuml;r Arsen, von weniger als 10 bis hin zu mehr als 40 &micro;g/g im Sommer jeweils unterschiedliche Jahre gemessen. Erhaltenen Daten &uuml;ber den Verweis Muscheln wurden zur Bewertung der Auswirkungen der 41 Offshore-Plattformen, die auf f&uuml;nf nautische Distrikten in Nord- und Central Adria verteilt. Organismen, die Stichprobe auf diesen Strukturen von 2001 bis 2005 stellte eine gewisse Anreicherung von Cadmium und Zink, die wahrscheinlich auf die Verwendung von anodischen Elektroden verbunden. J&auml;hrliche gekennzeichnet und geografische Unterschiede f&uuml;r die Konzentrationen von Arsen in Muscheln unterschiedlicher Plattformen gemessen wurden. Jedoch der Vergleich mit Ergebnissen von Portonovo, erlaubt die anthropogenen Auswirkungen der Nutzung auszuschlie&szlig;en und offenbart ein nat&uuml;rlicher regionaler Farbverlauf Arsen Levels in Muscheln Gewebe der wechselnde Einfluss der Stichwahl des Po-Flusses auf Meerwasser Salzigkeit verbunden. Insbesondere best&auml;tigt die h&ouml;heren Konzentrationen gemessen in Organismen, die Stichprobe von Plattformen im zentralen im Vergleich zur n&ouml;rdlichen Adria eine signifikante Beziehung zwischen Salzgehalt und Arsen Bioakkumulation, mit einer Rolle der Arsenobetain als eine erworbene Osmolyte f&uuml;r Muscheln. Die Gesamtergebnisse best&auml;tigt die Bedeutung der nat&uuml;rlichen Variabilit&auml;t bei der Bewertung der potenziellen Auswirkungen der anthropogenen Aktivit&auml;ten.

Diethylene glycol (DEG) is commonly used to dehydrate natural gas in off-shore extraction plants and to prevent formation of gas hydrates. It may be released into the sea accidentally or in discharged produced waters (PWs). PWs samples from off-shore gas platforms in the Adriatic Sea (Italy) have been used in this study. The objectives of the study were: a) to evaluate the toxicity of DEG for marine organisms; b) to evaluate if a high DEG content in PWs may alter their toxicity; c) to verify whether the DEG threshold concentration established by the Italian legislation (3.5Â g/l) for PWs discharged at sea is safe for marine environment. Ten different species (Vibrio fischeri, Phaeodactylum tricornutum, Dunaliella tertiolecta, Brachionus plicatilis, Artemia franciscana, Tigropus fulvus, Mytilus galloprovincialis, Crassostrea gigas, Tapes philippinarum and Dicentrarchus labrax) have been exposed to DEG; four of these species were also exposed to PWs in combination with DEG. The results showed that: a) DEG is not toxic at levels normally detected in Adriatic PWs; b) DEG in combination with PW showed mainly additive or synergistic effects; c) short-term bioassays showed that the DEG limit of 3.5Â g/l could be acceptable.

Toxicity evaluation of diethylene glycol and its combined effects with produced waters of off-shore gas platforms in the Adriatic Sea (Italy): Bioassays with marine/estuarine species.

Le di&#xE9;thyl&#xE8;ne glycol (DEG) est couramment utilis&#xE9; pour d&#xE9;shydrater le gaz naturel dans les usines d&#x26;#39;extraction off-shore et &#xE0; pr&#xE9;venir la formation des hydrates de gaz. Il peut &#xEA;tre rejet&#xE9;e dans la mer accidentellement ou d&#xE9;vers&#xE9;es les eaux produites (PG). &#xC9;chantillons des PG de plates-formes off-shore de gaz dans la mer Adriatique (Italie) ont &#xE9;t&#xE9; utilis&#xE9;s dans cette &#xE9;tude. Les objectifs de l&#x26;#39;&#xE9;tude &#xE9;taient les suivants: a) pour &#xE9;valuer la toxicit&#xE9; du DEG pour les organismes marins; b) d&#x26;#39;&#xE9;valuer si une teneur en DEG &#xE9;lev&#xE9; dans PG peut modifier leur toxicit&#xE9;; c) de v&#xE9;rifier si le seuil de concentration DEG &#xE9;tabli par la l&#xE9;gislation italienne ( 3,5 g / l) pour PG d&#xE9;vers&#xE9;s en mer est sans danger pour l&#x26;#39;environnement marin. PWs-Proben von off-Shore-Gas-Plattformen in der Adria (Italien) wurden in dieser Studie verwendet. Die Ziele der Studie waren: a) zur Bewertung der Toxizit&auml;t von DEG Meerestiere; b) zu ermitteln, ob ein hoher Gehalt der DEG in PWs ihre Toxizit&auml;t ver&auml;ndern kann; c) um festzustellen, ob die DEG-Schwelle-Konzentration von der italienischen Gesetzgebung (3,5 g/l) eingerichtet f&uuml;r PWs entlassen am Meer ist sicher f&uuml;r die Meeresumwelt. Zehn verschiedene Arten (Vibrio Fischeri, Phaeodactylum Labkraut, Dunaliella Tertiolecta, Zooplankton Plicatilis, Artemia Franciscana, Tigropus Fulvus, Mytilus Galloprovincialis, Crassostrea Gigas, Tapes Philippinarum und Dicentrarchus Labrax) sind DEG ausgesetzt worden; vier dieser Arten wurden auch PWs in Kombination mit DEG ausgesetzt. Die Ergebnisse zeigten, dass: a) DEG ist nicht giftig auf Ebenen, die normalerweise erkannt in Adria PWs; b) DEG in Kombination mit PW zeigte haupts&auml;chlich additive oder synergistische Effekte; C) kurzfristige Bioassays zeigte, dass die DEG-Grenze von 3,5 g/l akzeptabel sein k&ouml;nnte.

Bewertung der Toxizit&auml;t Diethylenglykol und ihre kombinierte Wirkung mit produziert Wasser Gas Offshore-Plattformen in der Adria (Italien): Bioassays mit Marine/M&uuml;ndungs-Arten.

Glicole dietilenico (DEG) &egrave; comunemente usato per la disidratazione di gas naturale in impianti di estrazione off-shore e per impedire la formazione di gas idrati. Pu&ograve; essere rilasciato in mare accidentalmente o in acque prodotte scariche (PWs). PWs campioni da piattaforme off-shore di gas nel Mar Adriatico (Italia) sono stati utilizzati in questo studio. Gli obiettivi dello studio sono stati: un) per valutare la tossicit&agrave; di DEG per organismi marini; b) per valutare se un alto contenuto DEG in PWs pu&ograve; alterare la loro tossicit&agrave;; c) per verificare se la concentrazione di soglia DEG stabilito dalla legislazione italiana (3,5 g/l) per PWs scaricata in mare &egrave; sicuro per l&#39;ambiente marino. Dieci specie diverse (Vibrio fischeri, Phaeodactylum tricornutum, Dunaliella tertiolecta, Brachionus plicatilis, Artemia franciscana, fulvus Tigropus, Mytilus galloprovincialis, Crassostrea gigas, Tapes philippinarum e Dicentrarchus labrax) sono stati esposti a DEG; quattro di queste specie sono stati esposti anche a PWs in combinazione con DEG. El dietilenglicol (DEG) es com&#xFA;nmente utilizado para la deshidrataci&#xF3;n de gas natural en las plantas de extracci&#xF3;n off-shore y para prevenir la formaci&#xF3;n de hidratos de gas. Puede ser puesto en libertad en el mar de forma accidental o dados de alta en las aguas producidas (PWS). Muestras de PWS desde las plataformas de gas off-shore en el Mar Adri&#xE1;tico (Italia) se han utilizado en este estudio. Los objetivos del estudio fueron: a) para evaluar la toxicidad de DEG para los organismos marinos; b) evaluar si el contenido de DEG de alta en el SPW pueden alterar su toxicidad, c) para verificar si la concentraci&#xF3;n umbral de DEG establecido por la legislaci&#xF3;n italiana ( 3,5 g / l) para PWs vertidos en el mar es segura para el medio ambiente marino. Diez especies diferentes (Vibrio fischeri, tricornutum Phaeodactylum, tertiolecta Dunaliella, Brachionus plicatilis, Artemia franciscana, fulvus Tigropus, Mytilus galloprovincialis, Crassostrea gigas, philippinarum Cintas y Dicentrarchus labrax) ha estado expuesto a DEG, cuatro de estas especies tambi&#xE9;n estaban expuestos a los SMP en combinaci&#xF3;n con DEG. La toxicidad de Evaluaci&#xF3;n de dietilenglicol y sus efectos combinados con aguas producidas de las plataformas de gas off-shore en el Mar Adri&#xE1;tico (Italia): Los bioensayos con marinos / estuarinos Especies

The European Water Framework Directive (WFD) 2000/60/EC requests the achievement of the Good Status for all surface waters, including the coastal waters, by 2015. In order to check compliance with the needs of Directive, Italian national monitoring data on Posidonia oceanica meadows have been explored and the relationships among the Posidonia Rapid and Easy Index (PREI), and human-induced pressures have been analyzed along the Italian coasts. The aim of this work is to establish functional relationships between a response variable (i.e. the PREI) and a set of potential pressure (i.e. land use, potential organic and nutrient loading, pesticides) and status (i.e. transparency, trophic level and stability of the water column) indicators in a quantitative way. The ecological responses of coastal marine environment have been evaluated using appropriate statistical tools, such as the multiple linear regression analyses and "linear programming" techniques. Results show that more than 70% of the variability of the P. oceanica meadows status, expressed as PREI value, is significantly explained only by a few pressure/status indicators (namely: potential organic load, specific nitrogen load, natural areas extent, water column transparency), among all those initially considered in the model. The application of the proposed model could allow decision makers to better address remedial actions and to achieve the environmental targets proposed by the EU Directives.

A methodological approach to understand functional relationships between ecological indices and human-induced pressures: the case of the Posidonia oceanica meadows.

A complex framework of chemical, biological and oceanographic activities was immediately activated after the Costa Concordia shipwreck, to assess possible contamination events and the environmental impact during both emergency and wreck removal operations. In the present paper, we describe the results obtained with caged mussels, Mytilus galloprovincialis, chosen as bioindicator organisms to detect variations of bioavailability and the early onset of molecular and cellular effects (biomarkers). Seven translocation experiments were carried out during the first year from the incident, with organisms deployed at 2 depths in 3 different sites. After 4-6 weeks, tissue concentrations were measured for the main classes of potentially released chemicals (trace metals, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, volatile and aliphatic hydrocarbons, polychlorinated biphenyls, halogenated pesticides, organotin compounds, brominated flame retardants, anionic surfactants); a wide battery of biomarkers covered responses indicative of exposure, detoxification, oxidative stress, cell damage and genotoxic effects. Results excluded serious contamination events or a consistent increase of environmental pollution although some episodic spills with reversible effects were detected. Data were elaborated within a quantitative weight of evidence (WOE) model which provided synthetic hazard indices for each typology of data, before their overall integration in an environmental risk index, which generally ranged from slight to moderate. The proposed WOE model was confirmed a useful tool to summarize large datasets of complex data in integrative indices, and to simplify the interpretation for stakeholders and decision makers, thus supporting a more comprehensive process of "site-oriented" management decisions.

A multidisciplinary weight of evidence approach for environmental risk assessment at the Costa Concordia wreck: Integrative indices from Mussel Watch.

A plethora of different sampling methodologies has been used to document the presence of micro-plastic fragments in sea water. European Marine Strategy suggests to improve standard techniques to make future data comparable. We use Manta Trawl sampling technique to quantify abundance and distribution of micro-plastic fragments in Sardinian Sea (Western Mediterranean), and their relation with phthalates and organoclorine in the neustonic habitat. Our results highlight a quite high average plastic abundance value (0.15 items/m(3)), comparable to the levels detected in other areas of the Mediterranean. "Site" is the only factor that significantly explains the differences observed in micro-plastic densities. Contaminant levels show high spatial and temporal variation. In every station, HCB is the contaminant with the lowest concentration while PCBs shows the highest levels. This work, in line with Marine Strategy directives, represents a preliminary study for the analysis of plastic impact on marine environment of Sardinia.

Amount and distribution of neustonic micro-plastic off the western Sardinian coast (Central-Western Mediterranean Sea).

Plastic waste is a growing global environmental problem, particularly in the marine ecosystems, in consideration of its persistence. The monitoring of the plastic waste has become a global issue, as reported by several surveillance guidelines proposed by Regional Sea Conventions (OSPAR, UNEP) and appointed by the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive. Policy responses to plastic waste vary at many levels, ranging from beach clean-up to bans on the commercialization of plastic bags and to Regional Plans for waste management and recycling. Moreover, in recent years, the production of plant-derived biodegradable plastic polymers has assumed increasing importance. This study reports the first preliminary characterization of carbon stable isotopes (δ(13)C) of different plastic polymers (petroleum- and plant-derived) in order to increase the dataset of isotopic values as a tool for further investigation in different fields of polymers research as well as in the marine environment surveillance. The δ(13)C values determined in different packaging for food uses reflect the plant origin of "BIO" materials, whereas the recycled plastic materials displayed a δ(13)C signatures between plant- and petroleum-derived polymers source. In a preliminary estimation, the different colours of plastic did not affect the variability of δ(13)C values, whereas the abiotic and biotic degradation processes that occurred in the plastic materials collected on beaches and in seawater, showed less negative δ(13)C values. A preliminary experimental field test confirmed these results. The advantages offered by isotope ratio mass spectrometry with respect to other analytical methods used to characterize the composition of plastic polymers are: high sensitivity, small amount of material required, rapidity of analysis, low cost and no limitation in black/dark samples compared with spectroscopic analysis.
