Biography

Shubham Rathore is a PhD candidate at the Buschbeck lab in the Department of Biological sciences, University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio. He received his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from Mithibai College, University of Mumbai, and a masters degree in Biochemistry from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara, India.

During his masters program, Shubham developed a keen interest in the molecular networks underlying development of organ systems and worked on differentiating primary human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells to islets of langerhans in vitro and identifying key microRNAs expressed during this process with the goal of identifying important checkpoints that might affect differentiation potential. He then went on to work as a research associate at the immunoanalytics division at Dr.Reddy's laboratories, Hyderabad, India, followed by a five month internship with Dr.Hiya Ghosh at the National Center for Biological Science, Bangalore, India, before joining Prof. Elke Bushcbeck's lab as a PhD student.

Shubham is currently studying eye development in arthropods such as the Sunburst diving beetle, with the aim of understanding the extent of functional conservation in specific eye development genes across evolution. His primary focus is to understand the molecular biology of lens secreting support cells in these eyes by using RNA interference technology against specific genes and how this affects the optics of the eyes.
