Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is a serious cardiovascular disease. Investigating new susceptibility genes for effective methods of early diagnosis of AMI is important. In the current study, peripheral blood miR-19a levels were detected by real-time polymerase chain reaction. Significant differences and logistic correlation analyses were carried out by grouping of disease types and stratification of risk factors. Receiver-operator characteristic curve analysis was used to compare the current common clinical biochemical markers and evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of miR-19a for diagnosing AMI. Circulating miR-19a expression in the AMI group was higher than that in controls. The diagnostic effect of circulating miR-19a levels was superior to current clinical biochemical indices, such as CK, CK-MB, MYO, hs-TnI, and BNP. Our results show that there is a close association of circulating miR-19a levels with susceptibility to AMI. Circulating miR-19a levels could be a candidate diagnostic biomarker for AMI.

Circulating microRNA-19a as a potential novel biomarker for diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction.

Myocardial ischemia‑reperfusion injury (MIRI) is a severe injury to the ischemic myocardium following the recovery of blood flow. Currently, there is no effective treatment for MIRI in clinical practice. Over the past two decades, biological studies of hypoxia and hypoxia‑inducible factor‑1α (HIF‑1α) have notably improved understanding of oxygen homeostasis. HIF‑1α is an oxygen‑sensitive transcription factor that mediates adaptive metabolic responses to hypoxia and serves a pivotal role in MIRI. In particular, previous studies have demonstrated that HIF‑1α improves mitochondrial function, decreases cellular oxidative stress, activates cardioprotective signaling pathways and downstream protective genes and interacts with non‑coding RNAs. The present review summarizes the roles and associated mechanisms of action of HIF‑1α in MIRI. In addition, HIF‑1α‑associated MIRI intervention, including natural compounds, exosomes, ischemic preconditioning and ischemic post‑processing are presented. The present review provides evidence for the roles of HIF‑1α activation in MIRI and supports its use as a therapeutic target.

With the advancement of high-throughput sequencing and bioinformatics, an increasing number of overlooked small noncoding RNAs (sncRNAs) have emerged. These sncRNAs predominantly comprise transfer RNA-derived fragments (tsRNAs), PIWI-interacting RNAs (piRNAs), Ro-associated non-coding RNAs (RNYs or Y-RNAs), small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs), and small nuclear RNAs (snRNAs). Each of these RNA types possesses distinct biological properties and plays specific roles in both physiological and pathological processes. The differential expression of sncRNAs substantially affects the occurrence and progression of various systemic diseases. However, their roles in the cardiovascular system remain unclear. Therefore, understanding the functionality and mechanisms of sncRNAs in the cardiovascular system holds promise for identifying novel targets and strategies for the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. This review examines the biological characteristics of sncRNAs and their potential roles in cardiovascular diseases.
