Chromosome abnormalities are one of the major causes of human infertility. In infertile males, abnormal karyotypes are more frequent than in the general population. Furthermore, meiotic disorders affecting the germ cell-line have been observed in men with normal somatic karyotypes consulting for infertility. In both cases, the production of unbalanced spermatozoa has been demonstrated. Basically addressed to establish reproductive risks, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) on decondensed sperm heads has become the most frequently used method to evaluate the chromosomal constitution of spermatozoa in carriers of numerical sex chromosome abnormalities, carriers of structural chromosome reorganizations and infertile males with normal karyotype. The aim of this review is to present updated figures of the information obtained through sperm FISH studies with an emphasis on its clinical significance. Furthermore, the incorporation of novel FISH-based techniques (Multiplex-FISH; Multi-FISH) in male infertility studies is also discussed.

Les anomalies chromosomiques sont une des principales causes de l&#x26;#39;infertilit&#xE9; humaine. Chez les hommes infertiles, caryotypes anormaux sont plus fr&#xE9;quents que dans la population g&#xE9;n&#xE9;rale. Anomalie cromosomiche sono una delle principali cause di infertilit&agrave; umana. Nei maschi infertili, cariotipi anomali sono pi&ugrave; frequenti che nella popolazione generale. Inoltre, meiotica disturbi che interessano la cellula di germe-linea sono state osservate negli uomini con normale cariotipo somatico consulto per infertilit&agrave;. In entrambi i casi &egrave; stata dimostrata la produzione di spermatozoi sbilanciati. Fondamentalmente indirizzata per stabilire i rischi riproduttivi, l&#39;ibridazione in situ (FISH) su capi di sperma decondensed &egrave; diventato il metodo pi&ugrave; frequentemente usato per valutare la costituzione cromosomica di spermatozoi portatori di anomalie numeriche cromosoma sessuale, vettori di riorganizzazioni cromosomiche strutturali e maschi infertili con cariotipo normale. L&#39;obiettivo di questa revisione &egrave; quello di presentare alcune cifre aggiornate delle informazioni ottenute attraverso studi FISH degli spermatozoi con un&#39;enfasi sul suo significato clinico. En los hombres inf&#xE9;rtiles, cariotipos anormales son m&#xE1;s frecuentes que en la poblaci&#xF3;n general. Adem&#xE1;s, los trastornos que afectan a la meiosis de las c&#xE9;lulas germinales-line se han observado en los hombres con cariotipos normales som&#xE1;ticas de consultor&#xED;a para la infertilidad. En ambos casos, la producci&#xF3;n de espermatozoides desequilibrados ha sido demostrada.
