In reduction, that same electron is added to another compound. Because these reactions usually occur as a pair, they are called redox reactions....

生物体通过一系列反应分解有机分子以产生能量。其中许多反应为氧化还原反应,简称氧化还原反应。

氧化是指从原子中移除电子,而还原是指向原子中添加电子。由于反应中电子的数量是守恒的,氧化和还原半反应总是成对发生。

在细胞内,当一个分子获得一个电子时,通常会从周围环境中接受一个质子。这种氢的加入称为加氢反应,该分子被还原。相反,当一个分子失去氢原子时,称为脱氢反应,该分子被氧化。

质子和电子可以转移至电子载体分子,包括辅酶。

例如,在琥珀酸脱氢生成延胡索酸的过程中,电子和质子被转移至辅酶FAD,使其还原为FADH2。还原型FADH2随后将电子通过电子传递链进一步传递,并被重新氧化为FAD。
