甲状腺激素(三碘甲腺原氨酸或T3,以及甲状腺素或T4)的血液水平降低时,会向下丘脑发出信号,促使其释放促甲状腺激素释放激素(TRH)。
随后,促甲状腺激素释放激素(TRH)到达垂体,刺激垂体将促甲状腺激素(TSH)释放入血液中。
