用于光催化活性的金属氧化物异质结

摘要

异质结的构建可提升溶液燃烧合成法的光催化活性,该方法是一种高效利用时间和能量的工艺。本实验方案采用先进的分析表征技术评估材料的特性,结果表明,纳米复合材料对酸性橙-8染料的降解性能得到显著改善。

摘要

全球对合成技术及其最佳特性的改进存在显著需求,尤其是在工业规模应用方面。基于溶胶-凝胶的溶液燃烧合成法(SG-SCS)是一种制备有序多孔材料的简便方法。在这方面,皮尔逊软硬酸碱理论有助于选择宿主-掺杂剂的反应性,以形成合适的异质结。

异质结的形成还会改变材料的基本性质,通过电荷转移或协同作用增强光催化性能。根据差示热重分析(DTG)的稳定性评估结果,500 °C的煅烧温度是该过程的理想条件。

通过X射线衍射和高分辨率透射电子显微镜(HRTEM)验证了所制备的纳米颗粒(NPs)和纳米复合材料(NCs)的纳米级尺寸。此外,扫描电子显微镜图像和BET分析证实了材料的多孔特性。HRTEM、X射线光电子能谱和能量色散X射线分析确定了材料的组成。研究发现,与纯ZnO相比,纳米复合材料对酸性橙8(AO8)染料的降解效率更高。

引言

随着全球企业数量迅速增加,环境保护已成为一个重大关切问题。因此,在现代科学领域,基于纳米技术的纳米材料(NMs)及其合成方法相比块体材料更受研究人员关注1。目前已有多种物理化学方法被用于处理有机和无机污染物2,3。其中,由于异相光催化技术具有操作简便、能有效降解毒素且不会产生二次污染的优点,被认为是一种适应性强的修复技术4。研究已设计出由合适带隙半导体构成的异质结或掺杂结构,有助于减少材料中电子-空穴对的复合,并优化其比表面积和体积。这一条件进一步提高了染料的光催化降解效率5,6,7。近期研究还报道了异质结/杂化结构在协同效应和电荷转移改善方面的重要作用8,9,而半导体金属氧化物则表现出适用于多功能应用的独特物理和化学性质10。因此,二氧化钛(TiO2)和氧化锌纳米颗粒(ZnO NPs)受到了研究人员的广泛关注11,12。

与单一材料相比,构建异质结已成为提高材料比表面积和体积比、改善材料光催化性能及抗菌性能的独特优选策略之一。此外,二元异质结的协同效应相较于单一组分更能有效促进光生电子-空穴对的分离13,14。研究表明,Mn2O3与ZnO纳米颗粒之间形成的异质结可提高合成纳米颗粒的稳定性与基底吸附能力,并降低电荷转移电阻15。此外,已有多个研究采用基于皮尔逊软硬酸碱(HSAB)理论的主客体反应活性方法,用于验证异质结或掺杂结构的形成。研究发现,在水等硬碱溶剂存在下,硬路易斯酸(如Mn(III))无法扩散进入Zn(II)主体晶格的边界区域16,17,而是吸附在主体表面,并在煅烧过程中被氧化形成杂化结构。

由于其潜在优势,目前全球的研究重点在于改进材料合成的工业级可扩展应用及其关键前景13。溶液燃烧合成法(SCS)是一种简单、高效利用时间和能量的方法,可用于制备规则有序的多孔材料18,这类材料在离子/物质传输现象中发挥着重要作用19。SCS基于皮尔逊的硬软酸碱(HSAB)理论,能够实现良好的掺杂剂-基质分布或构建异质结。通过掺杂或异质结可调节材料的光学、磁学和电学性能,进而通过有效的电荷转移和/或协同作用提升材料的应用性能20。在结构导向剂(ADA)辅助下的SCS还可制备有序的胶体纳米晶框架(CNFs),用于能量转换器件中的物质/离子传输21,22。

本研究采用一种环境友好的溶胶凝胶-溶液燃烧合成(SG-SCS)方法,制备了聚乙烯醇(PVA)作为表面活性剂和络合剂,用于合成氧化锌纳米颗粒(ZnO NPs)以及基于氧化锌的二元纳米复合材料(NCs)异质结。根据软硬酸碱(HSAB)理论,估算了氧化物之间在电荷转移中起关键作用的异质结特性。通过多种表征技术对材料的结构、光学和形貌特性进行了分析。此外,测试了该材料对稳定且有毒性的AO8染料的降解效率。

方案

1. 纳米材料合成

  1. ZnO-Mn2O3 纳米复合材料合成
    1. 使用聚乙烯醇作为表面活性剂,采用络合剂辅助的溶胶-凝胶自蔓延燃烧合成法(SG-SCS)制备纳米复合材料。有关SG-SCS方法的图示说明,参见 补充图 S1.
    2. 将1.5 g PVA聚合物溶于100 mL蒸馏水中,在磁力搅拌器上持续搅拌约15 min,于 115 °C23.
    3. 将浓度为90% v/v的六水合硝酸锌盐前体溶液和浓度为10% v/v的硫酸锰盐前体溶液倒入上述已溶解的PVA溶液中,持续搅拌约10分钟,并将温度降低至 70 °C.
      注意:为遵循成核-掺杂方法,将盐前驱体同时混合以平衡纳米复合前驱体的反应活性16,24温度降低至 70 °C 根据La Mar模型控制纳米颗粒的加速生长和聚集25,26.
    4. 将生成的金属氢氧化物溶胶(胶体颗粒)置于密闭且避光的环境中陈化2天。随后,通过加热使溶液脱水 110 °C (在空气中)形成凝胶。
      注意:PVA 聚合物起到结构导向模板和络合剂的作用,有助于金属阳离子的均匀分散,引发燃烧过程,并防止团聚或聚集现象的发生。
    5. 将凝胶置于空气中燃烧,通过加热烘箱至约150–250 °C (使用简易温度计检测近似温度)。燃点是指开始燃烧所需的最低温度。燃烧过程中,应使用通风橱收集所有对人类健康有害的有毒气体副产物。
      注意:通过聚乙烯醇(PVA)聚合物与硝酸盐前驱体形成配合物来激活燃烧过程,这些配合物作为燃料以促进燃烧反应的进行。
    6. 将燃烧后的材料在高温下煅烧 3 h 500 °C 在马弗炉中,采用差示热重分析(DTG)分析技术进行优化。DTG可分解未燃烧的杂质,并提高材料的结晶度27.
  2. 裸露的ZnO和Mn2O3 纳米颗粒合成
    1. 采用溶胶-凝胶法制备纯金属氧化物。制备纯ZnO和Mn2O3 不使用PVA,采用之前提到的所有步骤1.1.1–1.1.6,但排除步骤1.1.2。由于不存在金属硝酸盐与PVA聚合物的复合物,因此在最终干燥步骤中不会发生自传播过程。

2. 纳米颗粒表征

  1. 在氮气氛围中,以20.0 mL/min的流速和50 °C/min的升温速率,测定热重分析比值,即热重/差热分析(TG/DTA分析),以研究纳米颗粒(NPs)和纳米复合材料(NCs)的热稳定性和降解行为。
  2. 采用溴化钾压片法进行傅里叶变换红外光谱(FTIR)分析,扫描范围为400–4000 cm−1,以研究纳米颗粒(NPs)和纳米复合材料(NCs)的表面官能团行为。
  3. 进行X射线衍射(XRD)分析,以研究聚乙烯醇(PVA)、纳米颗粒(NPs)和纳米复合材料(NCs)的晶体结构。
  4. 采用布鲁纳-埃米特-泰勒(Brunauer-Emmett-Teller, BET)法(基于N2吸附-脱附等温线)计算样品在相对压力(P/Po)0.05–0.35范围内的比表面积。使用巴雷特-乔纳-哈伦达(Barrett-Joyner-Halenda, BJH)法确定样品的孔径分布。最后,在−196.15 °C下测定所有纳米颗粒(NPs)和纳米复合材料(NCs)的N2吸附性能。
  5. 采用配备能谱仪的扫描电子显微镜(SEM-EDX)和高分辨率透射电子显微镜(HRTEM),研究纳米颗粒(NPs)和纳米复合材料(NCs)的形貌并进行成分分析。
  6. 在集成有Kratos专利磁浸没透镜、电荷中和系统及球面镜分析器的系统上进行X射线光电子能谱(XPS)分析。根据外部碳的能量对峰位能量进行校准。
    注意:研究人员在表征过程中采用了所有标准操作程序和实验规程。

3. 批次降解研究

  1. 将 0.06 g 的 ZnO 纳米颗粒(NPs)和纳米晶体(NCs)光催化剂加入含有 20 ppm AO8 染料的 250 mL 水溶液(水为溶剂)中,进行光催化实验。
  2. 在表面积为 176.6 cm2 的圆形玻璃反应器中进行降解实验。实验中采用中压汞蒸气灯(Hg 灯)作为光源(λmax = 365 nm,125 W)28。光照前,在避光条件下持续搅拌反应悬浮液 30 分钟,以建立 AO8/CR 在纳米颗粒/纳米晶体表面的吸附/脱附平衡。
  3. 将光源置于距反应混合物 20 cm 处,直接照射样品。使用转速为 110 rpm 的磁力搅拌器持续搅拌溶液。通过水循环控制整个反应器在实验过程中的温度。
  4. 每隔 15 分钟取 5 mL 染料溶液,利用紫外-可见分光光度计测定其在时间 t 的浓度。使用以下公式计算光催化降解效率的百分比:
    效率百分比公式,%η=(Co−Ct)/Co×100,用于实验分析的数学方程。
    其中 Co 和 Ct 分别表示 AO8 和 CR 染料溶液在光照前的初始浓度和光照时间 t 后的浓度;η 表示光脱色效率。
  5. 采用准一级动力学方程研究反应动力学:
    准一级动力学:一级动力学方程,log(Ct/Co)=-kt,用于化学反应速率分析。
    其中 Co 和 Ct 分别表示 AO8 染料溶液的初始浓度和平衡浓度(单位:mg/L),k 为反应速率常数,t 为时间(单位:分钟)。

结果

图1A 显示二元纳米晶体在DTG仪器分析氮气中煅烧前的热稳定性2 大气。吸附的 H 蒸发序列2O分子、分子内衰变、金属氢氧化物和/或PVA侧链分解、分子间作用/PVA主链分解,最后晶区部分发生反应生成碳、烃类和灰分29,30.

NCs 在高于 720 °C 时表现出稳定性下降。XRD 图谱中的衍射角及其对应的晶面符合 ZnO NPs 的六方晶体结构(ICSD:00-036-1451;图 1B)。与复合材料相比,ZnO NPs 的衍射峰更尖锐,表明 NCs 的结晶性较差31。ZnO(图 1C)和 Mn2O3(图 1C...

讨论

本实验方案描述了采用自下而上策略合成具有精确形貌、尺寸和结构的纳米晶体的方法。研究发现,在纳米晶体形成之前,其成核与生长过程至关重要。本研究中,ZnO和锰氧化物的合成基于LaMer研究团队提出的理论25,该理论认为纳米晶体的形成过程包括前驱体被还原为原子和晶核,进而形成种子,最终生成纳米晶体。在此过程中,纳米晶体的整体形貌和尺寸取决于种子的生长行为、种子的性质以及表面活性剂/封端剂的再活化作用。聚乙烯醇(PVA)可作为还原剂及封端/稳定剂58,59。与此同时,与传统的溶液凝胶-自蔓延燃烧合成(SG-SCS)方法不同,后者使用燃料作为氧化剂,而本方法仅使用PVA聚合物作为络合剂和封端剂,不添加任何燃料。在此情况下,水被用作溶剂,这与其他研究中常用的有毒、致癌或致突变溶剂不同,具有更高的安全性。
