Fluidigm Dynamic Array

Fluidigm Dynamic Array is an integrated fluidic circuit platform that automates hundreds of miniaturized biological reactions, enabling efficient analysis of many samples and assays in parallel. Elastomeric valves control nanoliter-scale volumes, routing selected samples and reagents into individual reaction chambers according to a programmed assay layout. In bioengineering, the system supports quantitative PCR, gene-expression profiling, genotyping, and biomarker analysis while reducing reagent consumption and hands-on pipetting. By increasing experimental throughput and measurement consistency, Dynamic Arrays help researchers characterize engineered cells, measure molecular responses, and compare biological conditions when sample material is limited.

A robust way to study neuronal avalanches, i.e. scale-invariant spatio-temporal activity bursts, indicative of critical state dynamics in cortex. Avalanches emerge spontaneously in developing superficial layers of cultured cortex which allows for long-term measurements of the activity with planar integrated multi-electrode arrays (MEA) under precisely controlled conditions.

We developed and validated a small-footprint array of miniature chemostats built from readily available parts for low cost. Physiological and experimental evolution results were similar to larger volume chemostats. The ministat array provides a compact, inexpensive, and accessible platform for traditional chemostat experiments, functional genomics, and chemical screening applications.
