Microbead Reference Points

Microbead reference points are small, trackable particles positioned in or attached to a biological or engineered material to provide fixed spatial landmarks during imaging. They make it possible to distinguish true sample deformation or movement from changes caused by microscope drift or image alignment. In bioengineering, researchers compare bead positions across time points or experimental conditions; shifts in their locations can be converted into displacement fields and used to assess tissue mechanics, cell-generated forces, biomaterial deformation, or transport. This approach improves spatial registration and quantitative interpretation of microscopy data, supporting validation of engineered tissues and mechanobiological models.

2015

The zebrafish is an excellent model system for genetic and developmental studies. Bead implantation is a valuable tissue manipulation technique that can be used to interrogate developmental mechanisms by introducing alterations in local cellular environments. This protocol describes how to perform microbead implantation in the zebrafish embryo.

Citations play a key role in academic writing by documenting the evidence that supports scholarly claims. Beyond giving credit to original authors, they show engagement with existing research and strengthen the credibility of an argument. Effective citation practices are central to research literacy because they reflect a writer’s ability to locate, evaluate, and integrate reliable sources into their work. Digital Tools for Citation Management Advances in digital technology have simplified the...

Fabrication of Amyloid-Beta-Releasing Polymer Microbeads for Modeling Alzheimer's Disease

2025

This video demonstrates a method for fabricating polymer microbeads that encapsulate neurotoxic amyloid-beta-secreting cells. The cell-polymer suspension is processed through a microbead fabrication device, with polymer gelation achieved via calcium cross-linking, forming spherical microbeads around the cells. The polymer allows cell proliferation while allowing controlled, long-term amyloid-beta release, simulating its accumulation in Alzheimer's disease.

Symbolic Understanding II: Displaced Reference

2026

Displaced reference is an important milestone in symbolic understanding that begins to emerge around 12 months of age. It is the ability to use words to refer to objects, people, or events that are not currently visible. This ability allows infants and toddlers to learn through communication even when objects or events are not directly present.Early DevelopmentBy approximately 12 to 13 months, infants may respond to the name of an absent familiar object by looking or pointing toward the place...
