Sars-cov-2 Rbd

The SARS-CoV-2 receptor-binding domain (RBD) is the portion of the viral spike protein that recognizes and attaches to host-cell receptors, making it central to viral entry and immune recognition. The RBD binds angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) on susceptible cells, while changes in its amino acid sequence can alter receptor affinity, antibody binding, and viral characteristics. In biological techniques, recombinant RBD is used in binding assays, antibody characterization, serological tests, vaccine research, and structural studies. These applications help researchers evaluate immune responses, monitor emerging variants, and develop strategies to block SARS-CoV-2 infection.
