Automatic Imaging Software

Automatic imaging software comprises computational tools that acquire, process, and analyze images with limited manual intervention, enabling objective, reproducible measurement in biological research. It typically applies algorithms for image enhancement, segmentation, feature extraction, and classification to identify cells, tissues, or other structures and quantify properties such as size, shape, intensity, and spatial distribution. By reducing observer bias and accelerating analysis of large image datasets, these tools support microscopy-based studies of cell behavior, tissue organization, disease progression, and experimental responses. Their integration with high-content imaging and quantitative biology helps researchers convert complex visual data into consistent measurements for comparison and interpretation.

Neurite outgrowth assays provide a quantitative value about regenerative neuronal processes. The advantage of this semi-automatic software is that it segments cell bodies and neurites separately by creating a mask and measures various parameters such as neurite length, number of branch points, cell-body cluster area, and number of cell clusters.

2024

Dendritic spines are post-synaptic compartments of most excitatory synapses. Alterations to dendritic spine morphology occur during neurodevelopment, aging, learning, and many neurological and psychiatric disorders, underscoring the importance of reliable dendritic spine analysis. This protocol describes quantifying dendritic spine morphology accurately and reproducibly using automatic three-dimensional neuron reconstruction software.

Automatic Processing and Automatic Social Behavior

2025

Automatic processing refers to the cognitive operations that occur without conscious intent or awareness, playing a fundamental role in shaping social cognition and behavior. These processes enable individuals to navigate complex social environments efficiently by relying on mental shortcuts and pre-existing knowledge structures known as schemas. One of the most influential mechanisms underlying automatic processing is priming, which subtly activates mental representations through exposure to...
