Cheap Mass Production

Cheap mass production is the large-scale manufacture of materials or products at low unit cost, a goal that makes biological technologies more accessible and practical. In biology, it depends on standardizing inputs and processes, then using scalable systems such as cell culture or microbial fermentation, alongside automation and quality control to maintain consistent output as volume increases. This approach supports affordable production of vaccines, enzymes, diagnostic reagents, and other biomaterials, enabling wider use in research, healthcare, and biotechnology while helping lower manufacturing costs.

To achieve population suppression of Aedes aegypti using the RIDL® (Release of Insects carrying a Dominant Lethal) system, large numbers of male mosquitoes need to be released. This requires the use of mass rearing techniques and technology to provide reliable systems to obtain the maximum number of high quality male mosquitoes.
