Chicken Lens Microinjection

Chicken lens microinjection is a specialized technique for delivering experimental substances into the developing lens of a chicken embryo, enabling direct study of vertebrate eye development. Using a fine glass micropipette, researchers penetrate the target tissue and apply a controlled volume of a reagent, such as a nucleic-acid-based perturbation or labeled molecule, at a defined developmental stage. This spatially and temporally precise approach helps test gene function, track cell behaviors, and examine signaling pathways that regulate lens formation, differentiation, and transparency. The method provides a tractable model for developmental biology and can clarify mechanisms relevant to congenital eye disorders and lens disease.

Zebrafish Microinjection Techniques

One of the major advantages to working with zebrafish (Danio rerio) is that their genetics can be easily manipulated by microinjection of early stage embryos. Using this technique, solutions containing genetic material or knockdown constructs are delivered into the blastomeres: the embryonic cells sitting atop the yolk of the newly fertilized egg. Delivery into the cytoplasm is achieved either through direct injection into the blastomere, or via natural cytoplasmic movements that occur after a...
