Corneal Tunnel

A corneal tunnel is a channel formed within the corneal stroma, the collagen-rich middle layer of the eye’s transparent cornea, to provide controlled access without crossing the central visual axis. Surgeons create the passage by separating stromal lamellae with a dissecting instrument or a femtosecond laser, while preserving surrounding tissue and maintaining a stable entry incision. This technique is used to place intracorneal ring segments, deliver therapeutic materials, or support selected corneal procedures, including treatment strategies for corneal ectasia. Its value lies in enabling localized intervention while limiting surface disruption, although tunnel dimensions, depth, and healing must be carefully controlled.

Source: Jose Roberto Moreto and Xiaofeng Liu, Department of Aerospace Engineering, San Diego State University, San Diego, CA Wind tunnel tests are useful in the design of vehicles and structures that are subjected to airflow during their use. Wind tunnel data are generated by applying a controlled air flow to a model of the object being studied. The test model usually has a similar geometry but is a smaller scale compared to the full-sized object. To ensure accurate and useful data is collected...

2012

Endothelial corneal transplantation is a surgical technique for treatment of posterior corneal diseases. Mechanical microkeratome dissection to prepare tissue results in thinner, more symmetric grafts with less endothelial cell loss and improved outcomes. Dissections can be performed at the eye bank prior to corneal transplantation surgery.
