Gfd Pre-filter

A GFD pre-filter is an upstream filtration device that removes larger particles and suspended material before a biological sample reaches a finer filter or analytical system. As fluid passes through its porous medium, size-based retention captures debris, aggregates, and other particulates, reducing the contaminant load and helping prevent downstream membrane blockage. In biology, this preliminary separation can improve sample handling, protect filtration and detection equipment, and support more consistent processing of cell suspensions, buffers, and other laboratory fluids. Its value depends on matching the filter’s pore structure and flow capacity to the sample and the requirements of the subsequent procedure.

Here, we present a study to evaluate the anti-viral efficacy of copper- and silver-based surface coatings on air filters. Using a bioaerosol chamber and Phi6 bacteriophage, this method quantifies viral inactivation and mechanical filtration efficiency for self-sanitizing indoor air technologies.

Passive Filters

2024

Passive filters are utilized to shape the frequency spectrum of signals across a diverse array of applications. These filters, using only passive elements like resistors (R), inductors (L), and capacitors (C), are capable of selectively allowing or blocking certain frequency ranges without the need for external power sources. Low-Pass Filters Low-pass filters are designed to transmit signals with frequencies lower than the cutoff frequency, ωc, and attenuate those above it. The cutoff frequency...

Active Filters

Active filters are electronic circuits that use operational amplifiers (op-amps), resistors, and capacitors to filter out unwanted frequency components from a signal. A first-order low-pass active filter is designed to pass signals with a frequency lower than a certain cutoff frequency and attenuate frequencies higher than that cutoff frequency. The transfer function for a first-order low-pass active filter is: Where Af is the gain at low frequencies also known as the dc gain, s is the...

pre-mRNA Processing

In eukaryotic cells, transcripts made by RNA polymerase are modified and processed before exiting the nucleus. Unprocessed RNA is called precursor mRNA or pre-mRNA to distinguish it from mature mRNA. Once about 20-40 ribonucleotides have been joined together by RNA polymerase, a group of enzymes adds a “cap” to the 5’ end of the growing transcript. In this process, a 5’ phosphate is replaced by modified guanosine that has a methyl group attached to it (7-Methyl guanosine). This 5’ cap helps the...

In eukaryotic cells, transcripts made by RNA polymerase are modified and processed before exiting the nucleus. Unprocessed RNA is called precursor mRNA or pre-mRNA to distinguish it from mature mRNA. Once about 20-40 ribonucleotides have been joined together by RNA polymerase, a group of enzymes adds a cap to the 5' end of the growing transcript. In this process, a 5' phosphate is replaced by modified guanosine that has a methyl group attached (7-methyl guanosine). This 5' cap helps the cell...
