Icp-oes Analysis

ICP-OES analysis, or inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry, is an elemental analysis technique that identifies and measures multiple elements in a sample, making it valuable for studying biological materials. The sample is introduced as an aerosol into a high-temperature argon plasma, where atoms and ions become excited and emit light at element-specific wavelengths; emission intensity is then related to concentration through calibration. In biology, ICP-OES helps quantify essential and trace elements in tissues, cells, body fluids, plants, and environmental samples. It supports research on nutrient metabolism, metal homeostasis, toxicology, contamination, and the elemental composition of biological systems.

Size exclusion chromatography hyphenated with inductively coupled plasma - mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) is a powerful tool to measure changes in the abundance of metalloproteins directly from biological samples. Here we describe a set of metalloprotein standards used to estimate molecular mass and the amount of metal associated with unknown proteins.

Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS): Interferences

2024

Inductively coupled plasma–mass spectrometry (ICP–MS) is a highly selective and sensitive technique for accurate elemental analysis. Though the analysis of ICP–MS mass spectra is comparatively straightforward, it is affected by spectroscopic and non-spectroscopic interferences. Spectroscopic interferences arise when the plasma contains ionic species with an m/z value the same as the analyte ion. Spectroscopic interference can be categorized as isobaric, polyatomic ions, and refractory oxide ion...

Inductively Coupled Plasma–Mass Spectrometry (ICP–MS): Overview

2024

In inductively coupled plasma–mass spectrometry (ICP–MS), an inductively coupled plasma (ICP) torch is used as an atomizer and ionizer. Solid samples are dissolved and volatilized before being introduced into the high-temperature argon plasma, while solution samples are nebulized and passed through the high-temperature argon plasma. Plasma dissociates the analytes and ionizes their component atoms to form a mixture of positive ions and molecular species. The positive ions are then passed on to...

Quantitatively mapping metals in tissue by laser ablation - inductively coupled plasma - mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) is a sensitive analytical technique that can provide new insight into how metals participate in normal function and disease processes. Here, we describe a protocol for quantitatively imaging metals in thin sections of mouse neurological tissue.
