Light On Off Response

Light on-off response is a biological reaction to the sudden appearance or removal of light, revealing how organisms detect environmental changes and adjust behavior or physiology. Photoreceptors sense changes in light intensity and convert them into electrical or biochemical signals that regulate neural activity, movement, gene expression, or cellular metabolism. Researchers use this response as an experimental assay to study sensory processing, phototaxis, visual adaptation, and circadian entrainment. Comparing responses to light onset and offset can identify defects in photoreceptor function or downstream signaling, making the approach useful in neuroscience, genetics, ecology, and the investigation of light-dependent biological rhythms.

Photoreceptors and Plant Responses to Light

2020

Light plays a significant role in regulating the growth and development of plants. In addition to providing energy for photosynthesis, light provides other important cues to regulate a range of developmental and physiological responses in plants. What Is a Photoreceptor? Plants respond to light using a unique set of light-sensitive proteins called photoreceptors. Photoreceptors contain photopigments, which consist of a protein component bound to a non-protein, light-absorbing pigment called...

We developed the Visual-Motor Response to quantitate the motor output of larval zebrafish in response to light increments and decrements. We also examined zebrafish vision mutants, including the no optokinetic response (nrc) mutants, which were thought to be completely blind when tested by another vision assay, the optokinetic reflex.

Photomotor Response Assay: A Method to Measure the Behavioral Response of Larval Zebrafish to a Sudden Change in Lighting Condition
