Screen Printed Electrodes

Screen printed electrodes are miniaturized electrochemical devices produced by depositing conductive inks onto a substrate to form patterned working, reference, and counter electrodes. During measurement, a biological or chemical reaction at the working electrode transfers electrons, while the resulting current or potential is measured relative to the reference electrode and supported by the counter electrode. Their low cost, small size, and compatibility with disposable formats make them useful for biosensors, monitoring metabolites, detecting pathogens, and analyzing cellular or tissue responses. In biology, screen printed electrodes support portable assays and rapid measurements, helping translate laboratory electrochemistry into point-of-care and field-based research.

On comparing the reactivity of silver and lead, it is observed that the two ionic species, Ag+ (aq) and Pb2+ (aq), show a difference in their redox reactivity towards copper: the silver ion undergoes spontaneous reduction, while the lead ion does not. This relative redox activity can be easily quantified in electrochemical cells by a property called cell potential. This property is commonly known as cell voltage in electrochemistry, and it is a measure of the energy which accompanies the charge...
