Tms Neuronavigation

TMS neuronavigation is a technology that combines transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) with real-time anatomical guidance to target specific brain regions accurately and reproducibly. Using an individual’s structural MRI, neuronavigation systems register the participant’s head position and track the stimulation coil, helping align each magnetic pulse with a predefined cortical location while accounting for movement. This approach supports studies of brain structure and function by linking localized stimulation to changes in neural activity, perception, behavior, or physiology. It is used in basic neuroscience, cognitive research, and clinical investigations of neurological and psychiatric disorders, where precise targeting can improve experimental consistency and treatment planning.

Using TMS to Measure Motor Excitability During Action Observation

2023

Source: Laboratories of Jonas T. Kaplan and Sarah I. Gimbel—University of Southern California Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive brain stimulation technique that involves passing current through an insulated coil placed against the scalp. A brief magnetic field is created by current in the coil, and because of the physical process of induction, this leads to a current in the nearby neural tissue. Depending on the duration, frequency, and magnitude of these magnetic...
