Syringe Needle Model

A syringe needle model is a controlled experimental representation of a syringe and needle used to study fluid delivery, needle insertion, or both under defined conditions. It works by combining needle geometry, plunger-driven pressure, fluid flow, and the mechanical resistance of a target material to reproduce injection or aspiration behavior. In cancer research, such models can support investigations of tumor biopsy, localized drug delivery, and the forces involved in penetrating tissue or tumor-mimicking materials. By standardizing these variables, the model enables researchers to compare needle designs, delivery conditions, and procedural outcomes before translating findings to biological systems or clinical applications.

(2022)This video demonstrates a syringe-based pressure method for extracting apoplastic bacteria, which proliferate and form microcolonies within the apoplast, the intercellular space between plant cells. The method yields debris-free bacterial samples suitable for downstream single-cell analysis.

Source: Julianna Jung, MD, FACEP, Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine, The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Maryland, USA For unstable patients requiring urgent administration of medications, fluids, or blood products, establishing vascular access quickly is essential. However, there are many factors that can complicate placement of a peripheral intravenous cannula (PIV), and it is extremely common for PIV attempts to fail. PIV placement may be technically challenging in small...

We describe here a protocol for microinjection in the rodent brain that uses quartz needles. These needles do not produce detectable tissue damage and ensure reliable delivery even in deep regions. Moreover, they can be adapted to research needs by personalized designs and can be re-used.

Source: Rachel Liu, BAO, MBBCh, Emergency Medicine, Yale School of Medicine, New Haven, Connecticut, USA A tension pneumothorax is a life-threatening situation in which excess air is introduced into the pleural space surrounding the lung, either through trauma to the chest cavity or as a spontaneous leak of air from the lung itself. Air trapped within the pleural space causes separation of the lung from the chest wall, disrupting normal breathing mechanisms. Pneumothorax may be small without...
