Cysteine-containing Peptide

Cysteine-containing peptides are peptides that include cysteine residues, amino acids distinguished by a reactive thiol group and important contributors to molecular structure and chemical reactivity. The thiol can undergo oxidation to form a disulfide bond with another cysteine, while its nucleophilicity also supports selective conjugation and other transformations under suitable conditions. These properties make cysteine-containing peptides useful for studying peptide folding, redox chemistry, and protein structure, as well as for designing probes, biomolecular conjugates, and therapeutically relevant molecules. In chemistry, controlling thiol reactivity and disulfide exchange is essential for preparing, modifying, and analyzing these compounds.
