Cytotoxic Peptides

Cytotoxic peptides are short chains of amino acids that damage or kill cells, making them important molecular tools in chemistry, pharmacology, and biomedical research. Their activity commonly arises when peptide charge, hydrophobicity, and three-dimensional structure promote binding to cell membranes, where they can disrupt lipid organization and compromise membrane integrity; some peptides also enter cells and affect intracellular targets. Researchers study these molecules to relate sequence and structure to toxicity, improve selectivity, and design candidates for antimicrobial, anticancer, or targeted therapeutic applications. Chemical characterization helps clarify their stability, interactions, and potential limitations in biological systems.

2025

The video showcases a flow cytometry-based assay for assaying immunodominance in cytotoxic T lymphocytes or CTL responses. Injected fluorescent target cells exhibit varying fluorescence corresponding to immunogenic epitopes. Post-spleen collection and sorting reveal a reduction in high-intensity fluorescent cells, confirming immunodominance in CTL responses.
