Ice Plane Visualization

Ice Plane Visualization is a structural modeling approach that represents crystallographic planes within ice, making the arrangement and orientation of water molecules easier to analyze. It works by mapping planes through the ice crystal lattice, often using crystallographic indices and molecular coordinates to display surfaces, spacing, and intermolecular organization. In chemistry, these visualizations help relate ice structure to hydrogen bonding, crystal growth, surface reactivity, and phase behavior. They can support studies of freezing, heterogeneous nucleation, atmospheric ice particles, and interactions between ice surfaces and dissolved or adsorbed chemical species.

This article describes a novel method to estimate proprioceptive drift on a 2D plane using the mirror illusion and combining a psychophysical procedure with an analysis using machine learning.

Determining the Ice-binding Planes of Antifreeze Proteins by Fluorescence-based Ice Plane Affinity

Antifreeze proteins (AFPs) bind to specific planes of ice to prevent or slow ice growth. Fluorescence-based ice plane affinity (FIPA) analysis is a modification of the original ice-etching method for determination of AFP-bound ice planes. AFPs are fluorescently labeled, incorporated into macroscopic single ice crystals, and visualized under UV light.

Using Eye-tracking to Assess the Relative Importance of Visual and Vestibular Input to Subcortical Motion Processing in the Roll Plane

2025

The methodology explored visual and vestibular contributions to gaze stabilization during optokinetic and whole-body rotations. Stimulations were carried out through visual, vestibular, and visuovestibular trials. Torsional eye-movement gain and nystagmus frequencies served as indicators for the subcortical relay of sensory-specific motion information towards the reflexive brainstem response for each trial.

Work Done Over an Inclined Plane

2023

The center-of-mass framework helps to easily describe the work done on rigid bodies. Since the internal forces in a rigid body do no work, they can be ignored, and the external forces can be considered in the work-energy theorem. The work done by gravity to move a rigid body, or the work done by an opposing force to move a rigid body against gravity, can be calculated using the center-of-mass framework. It is the line integral of the force of gravity over the path, considered positive if...

Planes in Space

2026

A plane in three-dimensional space is fundamentally characterized by a point that lies on the plane and a normal vector that is perpendicular to its surface. This normal vector uniquely determines the orientation of the plane, making it an essential geometric descriptor. In architectural applications, such as the installation of a sloped glass panel on a building façade, this mathematical model provides a precise representation of the panel’s position and orientation in space.Let r₀ be the...
