Ablation Therapy

Ablation therapy is a minimally invasive or surgical treatment that intentionally destroys or removes abnormal tissue to relieve symptoms, control disease, or restore normal function. Depending on the condition, clinicians use heat, cold, electrical energy, laser energy, or chemical agents to create a precisely targeted lesion, while imaging, catheter guidance, or physiologic monitoring helps limit injury to surrounding structures. In clinical care, ablation can interrupt faulty electrical pathways in cardiac arrhythmias, eliminate selected tumors, and treat certain pain-generating tissues or other localized disorders. Its outcomes depend on accurate targeting, tissue response, and appropriate patient selection, making it an important focus of procedural medicine and therapeutic innovation.

Stereotactic ablative body radiation therapy (SBRT) involves the precise delivery of high-dose radiation to cancer tumor targets. A novel SBRT platform offers a first-of-its-kind gimbaled radiation accelerator mounted within a pivoting O-ring gantry capable of dynamic image-guided tumor tracking. Here, we describe dynamic tumor tracking for lung targets.

Begin with an anesthetized human patient with an exposed skull. The patient is diagnosed with an intracranial tumor.Drill into the exposed skull to create a hole, generating an access point.Using stereotactic guidance, insert a laser diffusing fiber or LDF along the predetermined path and secure it in place.Transfer the patient to an MRI scanner and connect the LDF to a laser source.Capture MRI images from multiple angles to visualize the fiber path and the tumor. This confirms the LDF’s...

Pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) with an ablation catheter is a curative treatment for atrial fibrillation (AF). Robotic catheter systems aim to improve catheter steerability. Here, a procedure with a new robotic catheter system is presented. The goal of the procedure is electrical block between pulmonary vein and left atrium.
