Genital Assessment

Genital assessment is a structured clinical evaluation of the external and, when indicated, internal genital anatomy to identify normal findings, symptoms, injury, infection, or other disease. It combines a focused history with inspection and gentle palpation, performed with informed consent, appropriate privacy, and a chaperone or support person according to clinical policy; additional testing may include swabs, urine studies, or imaging. In clinical practice, this assessment helps guide diagnosis and treatment for pain, lesions, bleeding, discharge, trauma, and urinary or reproductive concerns. Clear communication and respectful, inclusive technique improve patient safety, examination quality, and trust.

Transmission occurs mainly through sexual contact, with asymptomatic viral shedding serving as a major route of spread. This characteristic makes HSV-2 difficult to control at a population level, as individuals may unknowingly transmit the virus even in the...

Freud saw this phase as a time of sexual reawakening, with desires directed toward others outside the family. A healthy transition into this stage, according to Freud, signifies the emergence of two key aspects of adult...

Infection of human tissues with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) ex vivo provides a valuable 3D model of virus pathogenesis. Here, we describe a protocol to process and infect tissue specimens from human tonsils and female genital mucosae with HIV-1 and maintain them in culture at the liquid-air interface.
