Iv Complication Management

IV complication management is the systematic recognition, prevention, and treatment of adverse events associated with intravenous access and infusion therapy. It relies on assessing the catheter site, infusion system, and patient for findings such as infiltration, extravasation, phlebitis, hematoma, infection, or unexpected systemic reactions; clinicians then stop or adjust the infusion and provide condition-specific care. In clinical practice, timely management limits tissue injury, prevents progression to serious infection or circulatory complications, and supports safe delivery of fluids, medications, blood products, and nutrition. Standardized assessment and documentation also improve communication, guide escalation, and strengthen quality improvement in hospitals and other healthcare settings.
