Nurse Patient Relationship

The nurse-patient relationship is a professional, therapeutic partnership in which nurses provide compassionate, patient-centered care while supporting health, dignity, and informed decision-making. It develops through purposeful communication, active listening, empathy, respect for autonomy, confidentiality, and clearly maintained professional boundaries, allowing nurses to assess needs and establish trust. In clinical practice, this relationship helps patients express concerns, participate in shared decisions, follow care plans, and manage illness more effectively. Strong nurse-patient relationships also support accurate assessment, individualized education, emotional well-being, and safer care across hospitals, clinics, community settings, and long-term care.

These more formal classification and organization systems grouped species by their physical similarity to one another. For example, all vertebrates have a backbone, but invertebrates do not.
