Obesity Impact

Obesity impact refers to the broad effects of excess adiposity on health, physical function, and clinical outcomes, making it an important concern in preventive and clinical medicine. Enlarged adipose tissue can release inflammatory mediators and alter insulin signaling, lipid metabolism, appetite regulation, and mechanical loading, contributing to chronic low-grade inflammation and metabolic dysfunction. These changes increase the risk of conditions such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, sleep apnea, and osteoarthritis. Understanding obesity impact supports risk assessment, individualized treatment, and evaluation of interventions aimed at weight management, metabolic health, and improved quality of life.

The Body Mass Index (BMI) is a numerical value derived from a person's weight and height, used to categorize individuals into weight ranges. It is calculated using the formula: weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared. Obesity is a health condition characterized by excessive accumulation of adipose tissue that poses health risks, often diagnosed with a BMI ≥ 30. This excess fat storage occurs when surplus dietary calories are converted into triglycerides and stored in adipocytes...

Social psychologists analyze how groups influence one another, shaping social structures and interactions through both cooperation and competition. These dynamics manifest in various ways, ranging from economic partnerships to intergroup conflicts that shape societal structures and perceptions.Cooperation and Competition in Intergroup RelationsIntergroup relationships vary across contexts, sometimes fostering cooperation and mutual benefit while at other times leading to conflict and...

Intraperitoneal Glucose Tolerance Test, Measurement of Lung Function, and Fixation of the Lung to Study the Impact of Obesity and Impaired Metabolism on Pulmonary Outcomes

The incidence of obesity is rising and increases the risk of chronic lung diseases. To establish the underlying mechanisms and preventive strategies, well-defined animal models are needed. Here, we provide three methods (glucose-tolerance-test, body plethysmography, and lung fixation) to study the effect of obesity on pulmonary outcomes in mice.
