Swinging Flashlight Test

The Swinging Flashlight Test is a clinical examination used to compare the pupillary light reflexes of both eyes and identify abnormalities in the afferent visual pathway. A clinician alternately directs a light into each eye, observing pupil constriction and dilation; when light shifts from a healthier eye to one with reduced retinal or optic nerve input, both pupils may appear to dilate, indicating a relative afferent pupillary defect. This rapid bedside test supports assessment of optic neuritis, optic nerve injury, severe retinal disease, and asymmetric visual dysfunction. Its simplicity makes it valuable in neurological and ophthalmic evaluation, although results should be interpreted alongside visual and ocular findings.

The Swing Equation

2024

The Swing Equation is a fundamental tool in power system dynamics, especially for analyzing the behavior of generating units like three-phase synchronous generators. This equation emerges from applying Newton's second law to the rotor of a generator, encompassing factors such as inertia, angular acceleration, and the interplay between mechanical and electrical torques. In a steady-state operation, the mechanical torque (Τm) supplied to the generator is balanced by the electrical torque (Τe)...

2025

We introduced an optimized surgical approach for small incision lenticule extraction, termed the Ye's Swing Technique. This technique enables the surgeon to perform lenticule separation and extraction more easily while minimizing the risk of incision-edge tears and lenticule fragmentation. The results of this study proved its safety and efficacy.

This method aims at locating vertical subsurface defects. Here, we couple a laser with a spatial light modulator and trigger its video input to heat a sample surface deterministically with two anti-phased modulated lines while acquiring highly resolved thermal images. The defect position is retrieved from evaluating thermal wave interference minima.
