Rosa26-mtmg

Rosa26-mTmG is a Cre-inducible genetic reporter system that marks cells and their descendants with a fluorescent color change, making lineage relationships visible during development. Before Cre-mediated recombination, cells express membrane-targeted tdTomato and appear red; Cre excises the loxP-flanked tdTomato cassette, allowing membrane-targeted EGFP expression and switching recombined cells to green. In developmental biology, this system supports cell lineage tracing, fate mapping, and analysis of tissue remodeling by distinguishing genetically recombined cells from their unrecombined neighbors. Because membrane labeling outlines cell boundaries, Rosa26-mTmG can also help visualize cell distribution, migration, and clonal contributions in developing tissues.
