Beveled Closer

A beveled closer is an engineering component designed to seal, join, or finish an opening with an angled edge that creates a controlled transition between adjoining surfaces. Its inclined face guides mating parts into position, accommodates small alignment or dimensional differences, and can distribute contact forces more gradually than a square-edged closure. Beveled closers are used in fabricated assemblies, housings, panels, joints, and other structures where a secure fit, reduced interference, or smoother external profile is required. Selecting the bevel angle, material, and dimensions helps engineers balance manufacturability, load transfer, sealing performance, and resistance to wear in the completed assembly.

Wet Beveling of Microinjection Needles Utilizing Constant Air Pressure for Feedback on Needle Opening

2024

This protocol describes the assembly of a pneumatic system for the delivery of pressurized air to a needle during the process of needle beveling. The protocol further describes the beveling process for creating sharp microinjection needles and how to gauge the relative opening size of the needle.

Viral vectors allow for targeted gene manipulation. We demonstrate a method for conditional gene expression or ablation in the mouse spinal cord, using stereotaxic injection of a viral vector into the dorsal horn, a prominent site of synaptic contact between primary somatosensory afferents and neurons of the central nervous system.
