Corona Discharge Patterning

Corona Discharge Patterning is an engineering method that uses localized electrical discharges to create controlled spatial patterns of charge or surface modification on a target material. It occurs when a strong electric field near an electrode ionizes the surrounding gas without forming a continuous arc; charged species then move toward the substrate and produce a patterned effect. Pattern geometry and uniformity depend on factors such as electrode configuration, voltage, gap, and exposure conditions. In engineering, corona discharge patterning supports localized surface treatment, electrostatic printing, material processing, and device fabrication while providing a contactless way to control interfacial properties and charge distribution.

RC Circuits: Discharging A Capacitor

2025

One of the applications of an RC circuit is the relaxation oscillator. The relaxation oscillator comprises a voltage source, a capacitor, a resistor, and a neon lamp. The lamp acts like an open circuit (infinite resistance) until the potential difference across the neon lamp reaches a specific voltage. At that voltage, the lamp acts like a short circuit (zero resistance), and the capacitor discharges through the neon lamp and produces light. Once the capacitor is fully discharged through the...
