Nanoscale Device Mapping

Nanoscale device mapping is the measurement and visualization of structural, electrical, or functional properties across devices with features measured at nanometer dimensions. It works by scanning a finely focused probe or beam over a device surface and recording position-dependent signals, such as surface potential, conductivity, topography, or current, to produce spatially resolved maps. In engineering, these maps reveal defects, interfaces, charge distribution, and local performance variations that conventional bulk measurements can conceal. The resulting information supports semiconductor characterization, device failure analysis, fabrication optimization, and the development of smaller, more reliable electronic and nanotechnology components.

Isolating electrical and thermal effects on electrically assisted deformation (EAD) is very difficult using macroscopic samples. Metallic sample micro- and nanostructures together with a custom test procedure have been developed to evaluate the impact of applied current on the formation without joule heating and evolution of dislocations on these samples.
