Vgg16 Backbone

VGG16 backbone is a convolutional neural network architecture used to extract hierarchical visual features from images before a task-specific prediction head processes them. It stacks 13 small 3 × 3 convolutional layers with rectified linear unit activations and five max-pooling stages, progressively converting image patterns such as edges and textures into higher-level representations while reducing spatial resolution. In engineering workflows, pretrained VGG16 weights can provide transferable features for image classification, object detection, segmentation, and visual inspection, often reducing training requirements when labeled data are limited. Its regular structure also makes it a useful reference model for studying feature extraction, transfer learning, and accuracy-versus-computation trade-offs.

A simple and general method for the synthesis of cyclic peptides using microwave irradiation is outlined. This procedure enables the synthesis of backbone cyclic peptides with a collection of different conformations while retaining the side chains and the pharmacophoric moieties., and therefore, allows to screen for the bioactive conformation.

To overcome the limitations of classical site-directed mutagenesis, proline analogs with specific modifications were incorporated into several fluorescent proteins. We show how the replacement of hydrogen by fluorine or of the single by double bonds in proline residues ("molecular surgery") affects fundamental protein properties, including their folding and interaction with light.

The Nucleosome Core Particle

2020

Nucleosomes are the DNA-histone complex, where the DNA strand is wound around the histone core. The histone core is an octamer containing two copies of H2A, H2B, H3, and H4 histone proteins. The paradox Nucleosomes, paradoxically, perform two opposite functions simultaneously. On the one hand, their main responsibility is to protect the delicate DNA strands from physical damage and help achieve a higher compaction ratio. While on the other hand, they must allow polymerase enzymes to access DNA...

Sparks, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, The University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT Hydrogels are a versatile class of cross-linked polymers produced through relatively simple procedures and with generally inexpensive materials. They can be formed from solution and involve a polymer backbone formed from monomer reagents, an initiator which makes the polymer reactive and a crosslinking species which binds the polymer chains...
