Food Security

Food security is the condition in which all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food that meets their dietary needs and preferences. It depends on interconnected factors including food availability, access, utilization, and stability, all of which are shaped by agricultural productivity, water and soil resources, climate, ecosystems, and food distribution systems. In environmental research, food security provides a framework for assessing how climate change, land degradation, biodiversity loss, and resource management affect nutrition and livelihoods, while guiding resilient, sustainable approaches to food production and helping inform policies that reduce hunger without undermining ecosystem health.
