Soil Temperature Control

Soil temperature control is the management of heat conditions within soil to regulate physical, chemical, and biological processes in the environment. It works by modifying heat exchange at the soil surface and belowground through practices such as mulching, shading, irrigation, drainage, or controlled heating, which influence solar radiation, evaporation, and thermal conductivity. Maintaining suitable temperatures can improve seed germination, root growth, nutrient cycling, and microbial activity while reducing heat or cold stress. Monitoring soil temperature helps researchers and land managers assess plant establishment, guide irrigation and planting decisions, and understand how environmental change affects soil ecosystems.

This study presents a novel method to provide efficient patient temperature control for cooling or warming patients. A single use, triple lumen device is placed into the esophagus, analogous to a standard orogastric tube, and connects to existing heat exchange units to perform automatic patient temperature management.
