Fat Content Measurement

Fat content measurement is the quantitative determination of lipid levels in a biological sample, food, or tissue, providing a measurable trait for research and comparison. Depending on the sample, analysis may involve extracting lipids with an organic solvent, separating them from other components, and determining their mass or concentration through gravimetric, chemical, or instrument-based methods. In genetics, these measurements help characterize fat-related phenotypes, evaluate variation among individuals or strains, and connect genetic differences with lipid storage and metabolism. Reliable fat-content data support studies of inherited traits, nutritional biology, animal breeding, metabolic disease, and functional genomics.

2017

This protocol describes the method of determining basal and forskolin-stimulated lipolysis in inguinal fat pads obtained from normal chow diet (NCD) or high fat diet (HFD) ± capsaicin fed wild type mice. As an index for lipolysis, glycerol release was measured from inguinal adipose fat pads.

Milk Collection in the Rat Using Capillary Tubes and Estimation of Milk Fat Content by Creamatocrit

2024

Air content measurement in concrete is critical for ensuring structural integrity and durability of concrete structures, especially in environments prone to severe weather conditions. Accurate air content analysis optimizes concrete's resistance to freeze-thaw cycles and enhances its workability and strength. Several methods are standardized under ASTM guidelines to measure the air content in fresh concrete, each suitable for different concrete types and conditions. The pressure method,...
