20 Meter Shuttle Run

The 20 Meter Shuttle Run is a standardized field test of progressive aerobic capacity and physical endurance, making it useful for measuring functional performance. Participants run back and forth between two lines 20 meters apart, matching their pace to recorded beeps that become progressively faster; the test ends when they can no longer reach the line in time. In immunology and infection research, this measure can help assess changes in physical function associated with illness, recovery, or immune-related conditions. Its repeatable protocol supports comparisons across participants and may complement laboratory measures of inflammation, immune status, and disease severity.

Source: Laboratory of Dr. Zhongqi He - United States Department of Agriculture Acids and bases are substances capable of donating protons (H+) and hydroxide ions (OH-), respectively. They are two extremes that describe chemicals. Mixing acids and bases can cancel out or neutralize their extreme effects. A substance that is neither acidic nor basic is neutral. The values of proton concentration ([H+]) for most solutions are inconveniently small and difficult to compare so that a more practical...

Shuttle-box avoidance learning is well-established in behavioral neuroscience. This protocol describes how shuttle-box learning in rodents can be combined with site-specific electrical intracortical microstimulation (ICMS) and simultaneous chronical in vivo recordings as a tool to study multiple aspects of learning and perception.
