Renal Inflammation Analysis

Renal inflammation analysis is the systematic assessment of immune activity and tissue injury in the kidneys, helping clarify how inflammation contributes to infection, autoimmune disease, and impaired renal function. It combines approaches such as histological examination, immune-cell profiling, and measurement of inflammatory mediators, including cytokines and chemokines, to identify cellular infiltration, vascular changes, and damage to renal structures. In immunology and infection research, these analyses reveal how pathogens or dysregulated immune responses activate kidney inflammation and shape disease progression. The resulting data support disease classification, evaluation of experimental models, assessment of therapeutic responses, and development of biomarkers for renal injury.

Overview In response to tissue injury and infection, mast cells initiate inflammation. Mast cells release chemicals that increase the permeability of adjacent blood capillaries and attract additional immune cells to the wound or site of infection. Neutrophils are phagocytic leukocytes that exit the bloodstream and engulf invading microbes. Blood clotting platelets seal the wound and fibers create a scaffold for wound healing. Macrophages engulf aging neutrophils to end the acute inflammatory...

We describe a strategy to monitor maturation and migration of pulmonary dendritic cells in response to ovalbumin in the setting of ovalbumin induced allergic airway inflammation. This strategy can be modified to assess migration of pulmonary dendritic cells in settings of infection.

Malassezia-Induced Skin Inflammation and Fungal Burden Analysis in a Murine Model

This video demonstrates Malassezia-induced skin infection in mice. Malassezia oil suspension is applied over the wounded ear, triggering inflammation and swelling of the ear tissue. Later, the ears are dissected, homogenized, and spread on an agar plate for growth. The number of colonies indicates the fungal burden resulting from skin inflammation.

Early stage hemodynamic dysfunction is critical to the development of kidney disease. Yet, detection methodologies are limited. Recent advances in sonography provide a noninvasive, accurate option for early detection of kidney injury. This study outlines a step-by-step, sonographic methodology for detecting kidney dysfunction using a drug-induced nephrotoxicity rat model.

A precise murine model for acute kidney injury (AKI) due to ischemia is an important tool to investigate acute kidney injury and possibly find therapeutic tools to treat renal injury. The hanging weight system offers a tool for immediate and reliable renal artery occlusion and reperfusion without causing renal congestion.
