Rotating Incubation Unit

A rotating incubation unit is a laboratory device that combines controlled incubation with gentle, continuous rotation to maintain biological samples under stable experimental conditions. Rotation keeps cells, microorganisms, or reaction mixtures suspended and evenly exposed to the surrounding temperature, reducing settling and concentration gradients while incubation supports time-dependent biological processes. In immunology and infection research, these units can help standardize microbial culture, immune-cell stimulation, antibody or antigen interactions, and other assays requiring consistent sample contact. By improving mixing and environmental uniformity, rotating incubation supports reproducible measurements and clearer interpretation of host-pathogen and immune-response experiments.

Source: Laboratory of Jonathan Flombaum—Johns Hopkins University Visual mental imagery refers to the ability to conjure images in one’s mind’s eye. This allows people to process visual material above and beyond the constraints of a current point-of-view; for example, a person could imagine, using their mind’s eye, how something might look in a different color, or what it would look like if it were made from a different material or rotated and seen from a different perspective. Mental imagery...

Rotational Inertia

Source: Nicholas Timmons, Asantha Cooray, PhD, Department of Physics & Astronomy, School of Physical Sciences, University of California, Irvine, CA Inertia is the resistance of an object to being accelerated. In linear kinematics, this concept is directly related to the mass of an object. The more massive an object, the more force is required to accelerate that object. This is seen directly in Newton's second law, which states that force is equal to mass times acceleration. For rotation,...

Measurement: Standard Units

Every measurement provides three kinds of information: the size or magnitude of the measurement (a number), a standard of comparison for the measurement (a unit), and an indication of the uncertainty of the measurement. While the number and unit are explicitly represented when a quantity is written, the uncertainty is an aspect of the errors in the measurement results. The number in the measurement can be represented in different ways, including decimal form and scientific notation, which is...

Measurement: Derived Units

The International System of Units or SI system, by international agreement, has fixed measurement units for seven fundamental properties: length, mass, time, temperature, electric current, amount of substance, and luminosity. These are called the SI base units. Units of measurement derived from the mathematical combination of SI base units are called SI-derived units. For example, the ratio of the SI unit for distance (meter; m) and the SI unit for time (second; s) gives the SI-derived unit...
