Assael Model

The Assael Model is a marketing framework that explains consumer buying behavior by combining the buyer’s level of involvement with perceived differences among competing brands. It classifies purchasing into four patterns: complex buying behavior when involvement and brand differences are high, dissonance-reducing behavior when involvement is high but differences are limited, habitual buying when both are low, and variety-seeking behavior when involvement is low but brand differences are noticeable. Marketers use these categories to segment audiences, anticipate decision processes, and tailor advertising, product information, pricing, and promotional strategies. The model also helps explain how consumers evaluate alternatives and form brand preferences.
