Undefined Points

Undefined points are values in a mathematical expression or function’s input set for which no valid output exists, making them essential for identifying a function’s domain and behavior. They commonly arise when a denominator equals zero, an even root has a negative radicand, or a logarithm receives a nonpositive argument; analyzing nearby values can reveal a removable discontinuity, a jump, or a vertical asymptote. In mathematics, locating undefined points supports graphing, algebraic simplification, limit evaluation, and calculus-based modeling. Distinguishing an undefined value from a limit or an infinite trend helps prevent invalid operations and clarifies the structure of equations and functions.

2019

Freshwater mussel conservation is dependent on monitoring reproductive patterns and processes of species. This study standardizes a non-lethal protocol for sampling gill contents, characterizing larval development, and providing a digital repository for data collected. This protocol-database package will be an important tool for mussel researchers in recovery of imperiled species.
