Carotid Ultrasonography

Carotid ultrasonography is a noninvasive imaging method that evaluates the carotid arteries, which supply blood to the brain, for narrowing, plaque, and other structural changes. It uses high-frequency sound waves to produce real-time images of the arterial walls, while Doppler techniques measure the direction and velocity of blood flow; increased velocities can indicate stenosis. In medicine, clinicians use carotid ultrasonography to assess atherosclerosis, investigate possible cerebrovascular disease, and estimate stroke risk without ionizing radiation. The examination can support clinical decision-making, monitor disease progression, and evaluate responses to preventive or therapeutic interventions.

Ultrasonography is an imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to visualize the body's internal structures. It is a non-invasive and safe procedure that does not involve the use of ionizing radiation, making it widely used in various medical fields. Ultrasonography is used to study heart function, blood flow in the neck or extremities, certain conditions such as gallbladder disease, and fetal growth and development. During an ultrasonography procedure, a handheld device called a...
