Ductal Continuity

Ductal continuity refers to the anatomical connection between the pulmonary artery and descending aorta formed by the ductus arteriosus, an essential component of fetal circulation. Before birth, high pulmonary vascular resistance directs most right ventricular output through this vessel into the systemic circulation; after birth, increased oxygen levels and reduced prostaglandin signaling normally constrict and close it. In medicine, assessing ductal continuity with echocardiography helps characterize congenital heart defects, including patent ductus arteriosus and ductal-dependent lesions. Prostaglandin E1 may be used to maintain ductal patency temporarily, supporting pulmonary or systemic blood flow until definitive treatment is available.

2023

This video describes the technique of differentiating pancreatic acinar cells to ductal cells in ex vivo 3D culture. This helps to understand the mechanisms regulating the acinar-to-ductal metaplasia (ADM), a key process in the early development of pancreatic cancer.

Reprogramming Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma to Pluripotency

The present protocol describes the reprogramming of Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and normal pancreatic ductal epithelial cells into induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). We provide an optimized and detailed, step-by-step procedure, from preparing lentivirus to establishing stable iPSC lines.

Ultrasound-Guided Implantation: A Technique to Implant Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma Cells into an Adult Mouse

Activation of latent mutations with adenovirus-Cre into the mammary ductal system results in a clinically relevant metastatic breast cancer. Incorporation of a YFP promoter allows tracking of distal metastatic tumor cells. This model is useful to study latent metastasis, anti-tumor immunity, and for designing novel immunotherapies to treat breast cancer.

Batch and Continuous Bioreactors

2023

Bioreactors are used to grow organisms in large volumes, thereby enabling the production of mass quantities of the target product. These reactors can be batch reactors, which contain all of the components needed for cell growth, or continuous reactors, which have inlet and outlet ports allowing for the addition of fresh growth media and the removal of cell waste. This video presents batch and continuous reactors and demonstrates the use of bioreactors to grow bacteria in the laboratory.
