Experimental Animal Model

An experimental animal model is a living nonhuman organism used to represent specific biological processes, diseases, or treatment responses, helping researchers study medicine when direct investigation in humans is limited. Researchers select an appropriate species or strain and may reproduce a condition through genetic modification, surgical intervention, chemical exposure, infection, or other controlled procedures; they then measure physiological, behavioral, molecular, or pathological changes. These models support investigations of disease mechanisms, drug efficacy, toxicity, and therapeutic dosing before clinical studies, while also revealing biological pathways and limitations that guide model selection, experimental design, and the responsible translation of findings to human health.

Seizures negatively impact various functions and life quality. Planaria worms were exposed to varying concentrations of chemoconvulsants to evaluate their seizure phenotypes and disruptive motility. This study proposes using planaria worms as a model for acute seizures in humans and holds significance in drug development for epilepsy.
