Lipid Infiltration Measurement

Lipid infiltration measurement is the quantitative assessment of fat accumulation within tissues, an important indicator of tissue composition, injury, and disease progression in medicine. Depending on the method, it identifies lipid droplets in tissue sections through histological staining and microscopy or distinguishes fat from other tissue components using differences in magnetic resonance or computed tomography signals. These measurements help characterize muscle degeneration, fatty liver disease, obesity-related changes, and other pathological conditions. Standardized lipid quantification supports diagnosis, monitoring of disease progression, evaluation of treatment response, and research into how abnormal fat deposition alters tissue structure and function.

2014

A simple protocol to determine the neutral lipid content of algal cells using a Nile Red staining procedure is described. This time-saving technique offers an alternative to traditional gravimetric-based lipid quantification protocols. It has been designed for the specific application of monitoring bioprocess performance.

A rapid method to obtain infiltrating leukocytes from the murine brain is described. This method utilizes a continuous Percoll gradient and discontinuous Ficoll gradient to select and purify the leukocyte-enriched layer. Isolated leukocytes may then be characterized by flow cytometric measurements.

Microscale thermophoresis obtains binding constants quickly at low material cost. Either labeled or label free microscale thermophoresis is commercially available; however, label free thermophoresis is not capable of the diversity of interaction measurements that can be performed using fluorescent labels. We provide a protocol for labeled thermophoresis measurements.

(2022)This video demonstrates a vacuum infiltration method to introduce a bacterial pathogen into Arabidopsis plant leaves. The approach uses a prepared bacterial suspension and vacuum pulses to enable uniform entry through stomata, resulting in controlled leaf infection.
